Lallana Has Chance To Shine
Tuesday, 19th Nov 2013 08:57

Adam Lallana has a chance to take a step nearer a place in the squad for the World Cup Finals in Brazil against Germany at Wembley this evening.

After a decent showing for England last Friday against Chile in what was pretty much a makeshift team, Adam Lallana is rewarded with another start for the Three Lions this time in a side with a lot more experience and class.

Yes it will be against harder opposition in Germany, but with the likes of Steven Gerrard alongside him, he will have a much better opportunity to play his natural attacking game, against Chile there was an air of unfamiliarity about the side which meant that there was little rythymm in the side and that meant that England and Lallana were often pushed back and isolated from Wayne Rooney up front, this time though it will be different.

It will be interesting to see though were Lallana is played, Andros Townsend returns to the starting line up so that could mean a switch of wings for Adam and a return to the position he played mainly prior to this season, if he is on the left that could allow him to cut inside and get the ball onto his right foot so I wouldn't bet against a goal from him.

The good thing is that we still have one possibly two of our players who might play a part, Rickie Lambert has been injured and probably most Saints fans would rather he sit out this one and get fit for Arsenal on Saturday, especially with doubts about the fitness of Osvaldo, however Jay Rodrigues is on the bench and he will be hoping for another opportunity to get on and kick start his England career, Jay is clearly a player who needs a bit of confidence and perhaps the Chile game was not the one to get it in due to the disjointed way England played, however perhaps a cameo role against the Germans in the final minutes will better suit him.

But back to Lallana, this is a big big chance for him, get in another good game and it stands him in good stead so that he can go back to Saints, keep up his recent form of late to make sure that when Roy Hodgson selects his squad for the next friendly against Denmark in March, when the squad will really start to take shape in the run in to Brazil, that Adam Lallana is a name he feels he cant leave out.

Adam was one of the brighter sparks from last Friday's rather shambolic team performance. I'm hoping for good things tonight for the Saints' contingent!

Perhaps The Times will get the right pictures for the right players after tonight's games:
