Blues defender told: Make most of this chance

Kenny Jackett has challenged Christian Burgess to make the most of the chance given to him by Jack Whatmough's injury.

Burgess lost his place to Whatmough last month but the Gosport-raised defender had to come off at half-time in the defeat to Charlton at the weekend.

Burgess came on and looks set to keep his place - with Jackett saying the player has been told where he needs to sharpen up his game.

Jackett has also given updates to the club website to two other injured players. He told the site: 'Jack’s pulled his groin and should be out for a few weeks, so I don’t think he’ll play again this season. It’s disappointing for us and for him, but the positive thing is it’s not his knee and something he can overcome.

'Christian Burgess had lost his place to Jack, but now he’s got a chance and it’s up to him to finish the season off strongly. We’ve set him targets of where he needs to improve in order to become a really dominant centre-half and I believe he can do that.

'Nathan (Thompson) has got a dead leg which is a bit more straightforward, but he probably won’t be back for this weekend’s game. Anton Walkes is also progressing, although my physio is doubtful that he will play again for us this season.'
