Warnock promises to entertain, Hall named captain
Warnock promises to entertain, Hall named captain

Neil Warnock has promised his QPR side will follow Blackpool’s lead in going for a victory in every match this season, home and away. His choice for team captain has raised a few eyebrows though.

News:

Warnock told the Evening Standard that watching Ian Holloway take unfancied Blackpool into the top flight by attacking teams home and away has inspired him to push for promotion in the same way with Rangers this season. The likes of Clint Hill and Shaun Derry have been added to the team for steel and grit but that will not manifest itself in ‘play for a point’ mentality away from home according to the boss.

Warnock, about to commence his first full season in charge at Rangers, said: “I want to enjoy myself this season, no going away and trying to nick a result. We're going for the win, every time, home and away. Death or glory stuff if you like. The fans have been brought up on good play. That's what I want.

Earlier this week Warnock told Rowan Vine he has no future at the club and the striker is now looking for pastures new. Vine told the Kilburn Times: “I had a couple of conversations with the manager and he told me that it's going to be tough for me to get into the team. The club have a plan in terms of what they want to do. They think it's best that we come to an agreement, then I can be a free agent and, if it's going to go that way, then obviously I need to do the best I can for myself after leaving QPR.

"In terms of other clubs, there's nothing concrete right now. The main thing at the moment is to sort things out with QPR. It's now clear that I won't be going out on loan or anything like that - it's going to be a free transfer and then seeing who's interested. I feel I'm getting fitter by the day and the main thing now is to play more games. I'm still fully confident and will be looking to play at the highest level I can. If I don't get a club in the Championship then I will be disappointed, but I know the bottom line is that I have to go and get some football."

Another striker who is staying at Loftus Road, may leave temporarily next year in search of greater experience of life in a first team. Antonio German made a big impression when used last season but has moved down the pecking order this summer following the arrivals of Jamie Mackie and Leon Clarke.

German told the Kilburn Times: "Going on loan could be a good move - he's spoken to me about it before and I'd like more experience of playing football for three points. It's more competitive than reserve games and I think you learn a lot more. It could be very good for me long-term. I've seen Defoe do it - he went on loan and scored loads of goals, then came back to his parent club and carried that form on. But it's up to the manager - if he wants me to stay I'll happily stay. If I do then my target will be to start a couple more games for the first team, hopefully score and then maintain my place.

"I look at the other strikers at QPR and feel I could learn a lot from them, but I also tell myself that I want to get ahead of them and be in the team instead of looking up to them all the time."

Bu there is very definitely a future in W12 for much maligned defender Fitz Hall it seems. Hall spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle and as the club’s top earner many fans wanted to see him moved on this summer after a plethora of injuries decimated his time with the club so far. But Neil Warnock is keen to keep Hall, and has even made him the team captain for the forthcoming campaign.

Hall told the club’s official website: “I'm lost for words really. It's an honour and an absolute privilege and I couldn't be more delighted. I honestly thought my time at the club was coming to an end last year, but I never wanted to leave and being named skipper means everything to me. I was captain at Palace for a season earlier in my career and even though I was probably too young at the time, it was a role I really enjoyed. I've got the experience and I know the division and I'll relish the responsibility that comes with it. I'm not a shouter, but I like to lead by example.

"For the gaffer to pick me out of the 25 or so players we have in the squad is just incredible. The gaffer has signed a lot of leaders this summer, players like Dezza and Hilly who I played with at the back during my days at Oldham, are massive leaders. They're great talkers and hugely experienced and coupled with people like Rowly and Ledge we've got a good bunch this season."

Martin Rowlands remains as club captain.

Rumours:

The Mirror claims that Rangers are eyeing up a £100,000 raid on Plymouth for their left back Onismor Bhasera. The 24 year old Zimbabwean was relegated with Plymouth last season but played against Rangers on Friday night in a pre-season friendly and impressed.

Plymouth manager Peter Reid told the Plymouth Herald: “It's true we have had a bid from Palace, which we have turned down. I haven't heard anything about QPR. He's a good player but, hey, Manchester United didn't want to sell Ronaldo. In certain circumstances, you have to do it. In an ideal world, I wouldn't have sold Ashley Barnes but we had to move things around. Everyone has their price. But Bhasera has certainly impressed me with his attitude, and I think that pushed on position suits him. He has got energy, he has got a lovely left foot and can knock crosses in. I'm delighted he's our player. But I don't get worried about things like this. I take it as a compliment, people wanting players, as long as you can keep hold of them."

Former R’s:

Last season’s top scorer Jay Simpson continues to be linked with moves to a host of Championship clubs. Despite their current cash crisis Hull City have been linked with a £1m bid for the Arsenal striker following Bristol City’s reported interest earlier this week. The Mirror reports that instalment payments could be the key to Hull affording the 21 year old who hit 13 goals in QPR colours last season.

Championship Shorts:

- Ipswich’s nightmare pre-season in the transfer market looks set to continue with Jon Walters in discussions with Stoke City about a move to the Premiership. Roy Keane said at the end of last season he was five players short of a good team at Portman Road and has since only added Mark Kennedy and Martin Fulop and now looks set to lose Walters, who had also been linked with a move to QPR, for around £3m.

- There could be a couple of gaps in the QPR fixture list when the season gets underway on Saturday. Portsmouth say they will go out of business if the High Court find in favour of HMRC at a hearing later today. Revenue and Customs says the club owes them a further £13m on top of the debt accepted by the administrators.

- Bristol City have continued their impressive week of acquisitions by bringing in Wolves striker Sam Vokes on a half season loan deal. Vokes will partner Nicky Maynard in a strong looking strike force at Ashton Gate. Lewin Nyatanga has been ruled out for six weeks though after injuring his knee in a friendly against Blackpool at the weekend.

- Nottingham Forest have signed Chelsea left back Ryan Bertrand on a half season loan deal. Bertrand, who has previously impressed on loan at Norwich and Reading, was tipped to join Bristol City. Forest are also giving a trial to former West Ham defender Calum Davenport who has been out of the game for a year with stab wounds, and a subsequent court case.

Anyone else get the irony in the statement that Warnock is 'about to commence his first full season' at QPR. How many managers have lasted a full season in recent years!
