The LFW Confession Box

I'd given up hope in January when we'd had that seven match winless run and were seven points from safety and had only scored 21 goals with twenty matches left to play. I just couldn't see us pulling it round.

It was the Millwall match, as Mr Sheen says that started us rallying but I didn't really begin to hope until the WBA game which we played so well in, even though we only drew, that I thought we had a chance. Plus the fans got so behind the team that day that it felt like we could help pull them back up.

League One Play Offs

Start this week.

On a personal note I really don't want either Peterborough or Barnsley to go up. It seems like we always play badly against them. That three match run when we lost to Posh in the cup as well as the league and I went to the cup and the home game still haunts me.

The Ismael Barnsley side penning us in for what seemed like hours also gives me nightmares. Come on Oxford (v Posth) and Bolton (v Barnsley).

Awful after one goal. Slightly hopeful after two goals. Felt much more confident when the third went in. Relaxed after the fourth goal.

I think Reggie has a groin issue (maybe needs an op over the summer?) so I doubt they'll risk him now we're safe.

I'm quite surprised he hasn't been out on loan more. Playing development football doesn't really toughen you up enough for the physicality of the Championship.

Paul Smyth obviously learnt a lot in his time in the lower leagues as he's someone who used to get pushed off the ball previously and he's more resilient nowadays.

Pleased for him.

He had a great first season with us (he was supporters' and players' player of the season here too) but for whatever reason it ended up not working out here for him. It was time to move on.

I liked him though; he always seemed to put a lot of effort in and quite often showed a lot of skill. But playing here it was like he had the golfer's yips. I thought he'd be fine once he re-set at a different club.

I think Sam Field would give it to Sam Field (jokingly).

When he was asked at the end of the Sky interview to hand the MoM award to Chair, he said 'no chance'. Lol.

Who do we want to get relegated?
at 11:57 27 Apr 2024

Birmingham because it would be quite funny to see Roberts and Laird getting relegated after thinking they were too Billy Bollocks for QPR.

Stoke because they've been boring for years after spending squillions and somehow no-one goes on about that the way they're still going on about our over-spending over ten years ago now!

Want Plymouth to stay up because it's a lovely trip.

Yeah they do broadcast enfield. I always swerve the Sky commentary because it's ridiculously biased in favour of bigger clubs so I synch up Sky pictures with our commentary. It means you're about 30 seconds behind the game time but I just turn off notifications.

It was really annoying at full time as well. The Sky presenter asked Charlie Austin to go through our goals and he'd barely started when Jermaine Beckford jumped in to talk about why the goals weren't good from a Leeds perspective. So we didn't find out what CA thought at all. Infuriating.

Yeah! Even Sky 'Premier League' Sports have in their marketing for the final run-in of the promotion race 'why would anyone want to leave this league'. It really is fantastic the way bottom three sides can genuinely outplay top three sides, not just fluke it.

If it wasn't for the old unsustainable financially thing, I'd rather continue to play in the Championship than go into the hugely rigged Prem. Even the football isn't always a better watch. Having seen sainted Pep's CIty spending most of the match closing down little Brighton this week in pretty much peak Barnsley under Ismael style even the football is sometimes more fun.

This season has been the best I can remember for excitement at both ends of the table, and if Ipswich manage the automatic place it'll be arguably as big an achievement as Leicester winning the Prem, given they have only just been promoted to the Championship.

Also how much more refreshing to hear Marti and Farke being interviewed after the match: humble and gracious in victory from Marti, honest and generous in loss from Farke. I can't imagine punchy Prem managers like Klopp, Pep and Dyche behaving similarly.

Not being sour grapes though, this is a general point about how squillions of money at the very top of the Prem is killing some of the things that make the sport special. You've made a tremendous achievement to go up and stay up season after season. It would be just nice to think you had an outside chance to win the damn thing, which I don't think would be possible now, as things have got even harder since Leicester did it.

Taken altogether he's been pretty good, and the last couple of games he's pulled off some excellent saves.

I do think though we need someone who can distribute the ball better and is comfortable with the ball at his feet. in the longer term. Although I criticised him recently, fair play to him in the last couple of games and in a number of clutch matches this seaon.

Yeah, cos it was all about them oviously...

That's what happens when the media fawns about you all season, you begin to think it's some divine right to get promoted.

Too dense to realise that we needed to win to stay up.

I have to say though, they don't seem to have spent much time watching us play.

Fancy giving Chair so much space to run through midfield, then cut back on his right foot and hit a curler...as if that's never happened.

They didn't close us down, and at times gave us so much space it really played into our hands.

They didn't move the ball fast enough so we had plenty of time to get organised in defence.

But allowing us to get two set piece goals, that's a bit of a surprise.

Irrespective of all that it was an excellent performance with everyone having a good game. Just delighted.

They must really, really hate playing us.
