Another signing imminent for Swansea City ?

It’s been a whole four days since Swansea City have announced a new signing. And apparently if rumours are to be be believed Matthew Sorinola of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (Union) in Belgium is on his way to Swansea City. Tony Bloom the clubs owner / chairman also has major interests at Brighton in the premier league. He is also their chairman.

Russell Martin has bolstered his defensive line thoughtfully this season. Numerous arrivals give the look of a more solid unit. Thats just what Martin needed after a leaky time last season. Inconsistent defending, the crazy ability to collapse after goals are scored, and concede infuriatingly throughout the ninety minutes were features to be addressed this summer. It is expected that Matthew Sorinola will sign over the coming days on a season long loan agreement after discussions during the past six weeks. Many clubs seemed interested in Sorinola including Celtic, Rangers and Huddersfield but it seems he is now he is to link up with Russell Martin again.

We first linked Sorinola to Swansea back in early May.

Sorinola signed for MK Dons in 2017 from Fulham academy but found himself out on loan in 2020 at Beaconsfield. Russell Martin saw something in him and retained him for the 2020/21 season. Opinions on him were mixed even at MK Dons, and in May last year he rejected a new contract and signed for Union on a three year deal. Sorinola has never played at championship level and his thirteen Union appearances last season all came from the bench. He has scored one goal.

The belief a one season loan deal has been agreed is now evident, and Sorinola knowing Russell Martin we understand is keen to move up to championship level. Nathanael Ogbeta another left sided player signed for the swans in January for around £300,000 but has been overlooked by Russell Martin. A decision which has raised many eyebrows within the swans support.

If this move occurs it’s hard to see Sorinola as a permanent starter for the swans, however his progress over last season has been described as excellent by his then manager Felice Mazzù. Mazzù has been replaced in last two weeks by Karel Geraerts (ex Liege and Club Brugge) and that move has opened the door for Sorinola. Of course if this deal comes off we can only hope for the very best for Sorinola on his return to the English game. He is another ex MK Dons player and that will come with pluses and minuses especially for the likes of Ogbeta and a potential step up to the first team for any academy player.

As ever we will keep you updated on Swansea City news as we get it.

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
