Swansea City : New boots and contracts, Vipotnik & Galbraith question ?

Swansea City have announced that Jay Fulton and Andrew Fisher have been rewarded with new contracts taking them up to summer 2028. Great news for the players concerned and in Jay’s case a wonderful reward for his season to date.

We understand that both are on drastically reduced contracts, Jay was put on around fifteen thousand pounds a week when Steve Cooper was in charge back in January 2021. Despite falling out of favour with Russell Martin for a short while he refused offers from Barnsley and another northern based club, Jay who is thirty two in April remained determined to stay. The main issue would have been his salary. On signing under Cooper the then head coach said, "I really wanted to extend Jay's contract, I hope that can get sorted out. For me, Jay is in really good form, and his contribution so far this season, and we're only halfway so we're only looking forward, but I've got to tell you, I think he's contributed an awful lot this season. I can't tell you how professional he is. He's the ultimate team player or squad member if you like. He's always put everything else before him, a selfless individual”

Andy Fisher (below) who is twenty eight today was a signing at the behest of Russell Martin from MK Dons in January 2022. The fee believed to be four hundred thousand pounds. Not always a favourite he has also stuck by his own professionalism and determination to improve. "He's been a huge support in Lawrence's journey and Andy's own journey is far from over " (Swansea head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson) "He still has a lot of football ahead of him and I'm delighted for him and the club that the next chapter is with Swansea City."

Regardless of opinion the Swans have gone about their business as they did with Josh Tymon to tie players down. Many are seeing positive growth in the club this season after a very shaky start. Some fans are impatient, but this is a building exercise that will move into next season. To do that solid foundations need to be made. Players like Ethan Galbraith and Zān Vipotnik (must need new boots every week) need to be sold something to believe in, and that is potentially happening at Swansea City. Time will tell but you can guarantee both won’t be leaving Swansea City without at least talks to keep them after the summer. The club cannot be looking to rebuild each summer with promotion to the top flight a priority. That though all falls down to the maths, the Swans are close to the profit and sustainability limit and sales this summer may well have to take place.
