International strips 11:13 - Jun 12 with 5818 viewsDanVanDyke

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but what is the situation regarding international strips? Last night France, who always used to wear blue shirts, white shorts and red socks were wearing all blue, whilst England who always had blue shorts were wearing all white.

Spain have ditched their traditional black socks in favour of red as well. Is there a FIFA/UEFA rule governing the number of colours in a team strip?

Scotland have traditionally had red socks

Our new change kit is white shirts dark blue shorts and white socks

one team is designated the home team, i assume england last night...why have
traditions if the all white is coming in more and more?
i'd rather we wore the blue shorts with white top
as for the blue away thing, NOT an england kit for me.
odds are i bet we are unbeaten in it!

The French kit looked very dull. Their old brighter blue kit was better.

..and what are the odds at the away next kit launch in autumn 2013/spring 2014, there'll be a big song & dance about reintroducing the classic & fans favourite, glorious red kit to wear in the Brazil World Cup (hopefully)

Correct, our official home / first kit is all white (since the last kit launch) so the blue shorts mentioned are irrelevant

I think Michael Barrymore was in the room when they sat down to design the new home kit. (geddit)

I don't think we've had a decent England kit since 98.

The one previous to this current one was probably the worst ever. Didn't even get used for a tournament which is very odd.

The all white is fine by me, blue shorts okay but who cares? Didn't we use all white and and red kits in Mexico 70?

On the subject of why countries play in particular colours, why do Germany play in white?

Good old Jorge Campos. What a quality keeper he was. Only 5'8 as well. Nowadays you wont get a second look as a keeper if you are under 6'1.

Italy play in blue because it's the colour of the House of Savoy who used to rule the country.

Indeed, in much the same way as the Dutch play in orange for the House of Oranje-Nassau.

Germany's white and black strip comes from the colours of the Prussian flag.

Englands red and white comes from the flag of St George.

but why blue shorts?

I know historically we have worn blue shorts but why? the blue on the union jack comes from the Scottish flag of St Andrew.

Sometimes the English thng they are british (God save the queen is NOT the Englosh national anthem either (do we have one? Jeruslelm or Land of Hope and Gory perhaps?) - it is the Biristh one, so we shouldn't sing that either)

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

The Dutch have also adopted a single colour strip rather than having their traditional white shorts (or for a period, black).

Their's and France's kit are both made by Nike so don't know if that's a factor?
