This is a definite possibility. Midtable squad with midtable players. We'll win some and we'll lose some. Enough not to go down but not enough to go up.
Maybe the players are mentally weak or maybe we just have a lot of young players without the experience to always make the right decisions. I think Clive said it in his preview that managers don't really like young players. They'd generally prefer a 30 year old with 200+ games under their belt as they make fewer mistakes. By my reckoning, we had Kolli, Bennie, Morgan, Mbengue, Dembele, Vale, Kone all under 24 years old and with probably less than 200 games between them (certainly at championship level). Wrexham have been able to sign older pros on big wages who have little to no sell on potential but are capable of bullying their way to a win against a less experienced side.
Kone looked a bit more comfortable playing further forward. He's as slow as rust but he's at least strong. Not really sure what our other options are at the moment. Has Kolli got the physicality to play up there on his own? I'm not sure. For the time being I think playing 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 is the right thing to do. Unless this new signing is as rapid as Burrell and can form a partnership up top with Kone. We seem to sign new players and not play them though so not sure if we'll see much of him.
Also just back. Gutted obviously but here's my thoughts FWIW - Madsen best player on the pitch again. He's crucial to this team. Went down with a knock at one point and everyone in the ground held their breath until he got himself to his feet. He deserves a song much better than the terrible one he currently has. I think there'll be some interest in him in the summer. - First 30 minutes were excellent. I'm a big fan of Morgan. He looks to play forward and get the ball into dangerous areas. Doesn't always work but I like his attitude. - Vale was tidy in the first half. Great goal. Looked tired in the second. Understandable given the lack of games he's had. - Cook and Dunne are a great CB pair. Both played well today. Hopefully they can stay injury free. RND had another solid game. - we reacted really badly to the sending off and gave them all the time and space they needed. However, the red card was foolish so Mbengue needs to take responsibility for seriously letting his team mates down. He seems a good egg so I'm sure he would have held his hands up and apologised to the team. - a few said we should have bought on Edwards after the sending off. Not possible as we'd already had our three substitution windows. With hindsight you can say he should have taken off Mbengue as he was on a yellow but a manager had to be able to trust his players not to get themselves sent off. Again Mbengue has to carry the responsibility on that one. - having watched the goals back, I think it's unfair to lay the blame on Walsh. They're all very well struck. On another day maybe he saves one of them but I don't think any of them are a big keeper error. I also like the way he looks to distribute the ball quicker than our other keepers. - it's a shame our next game is against Coventry as we could really have done with an easier opponent to try and bounce back. Not sure what we do at the back. Would be a shame to stop the Cook Dunne partnership so maybe Edwards out tonight back. If he plays well there maybe he takes Mbengue's spot long term.
Wrexham had the stronger bench today and maybe that was just enough to get them three points that they didn't deserve. A point a piece would have been just about right.
We've obviously had worse results than that but tell me a game where both teams have been so unable to do any of the basics. Total shambles of a football match. Thank god we only play them twice a year. We are desperately short of quality at the moment. I hope this new kid can play a bit
I read that he's 6 foot 6. Could be a handy option assuming he can win a few headers. Only 21. Assuming we won't be paying much. Let's see how it goes.
The double airport security checks was totally unnecessary. They've never really been on my radar before but I wish them nothing but the worst after trudging along at a snails pace trying to get home. Most cost them an absolute fortune to steward that dump. Unless they've managed to get the tax payer to pay for that too.
What got me was how the most excited the West Ham fans got was when they played some shit loud music at half time. It was like they were at a pop concert. A pop concert for Tom Skinner lookalikes. Mugs!
It was good. My 7 year old was happy to stand on his seat throughout. Tough ground to get an atmosphere going but great scenes when we scored. A few young lads came flying down about three rows just behind me. Glad we had that moment. Shame we couldn't push a bit more for a winner but a good effort today from players and fans alike.
Don't get me started on the shambles that is getting away from that ground. Won't be going again unless it's for athletics
Just lots of them saying he's better than the players who've been picked every week and he deserved more of a chance. They're not happy and rightly so.
Morrison and Dunne did okay. Esquardina and Morgan at full back is really asking for trouble in this division and John Varane needs to stop poncing around and up his game. Saito cannot start on Thursday. Hopefully Chair can be involved and I'd have Smyth back in too.
