Back then the qpr bond offered a premium above what you could get elsewhere which reflected relative risk. This time around it doesn’t really.

I wonder if part of what made Adamson and Esq look good was that they weren’t inverted?

Yes but you have to compare with what interest rates you could get elsewhere. This is only 1.25 percentage points above the Bank of England rate now. You can get 4.5% from a safe as houses easy access FCSC scheme bank account where you’re not locked in for years, or over 5% from a blue chip company like GSK versus 5% from a loss making company at the whim of a single owner where you’re locked in for years. You expect a premium for a riskier investment with less flexibility that isn’t protected by the government. Last time round it was about four percentage points above the BoE rate, reflecting the risk.

From an investor perspective the qpr cash is trivial. How much polyester do you need?

The 25% promotion bonus is attractive.

But it’s not as good a deal compared to last time and where else you could put your money.

There's an advert to adopt a donkey on that site. Is it a sign?

His other goal was really cracking. Ollie Watkins style. Was it at Millwall?

Team for Stoke?
at 09:29 16 Jan 2026

I don't think he'll want to change shape or centreback pairing. So I think he'll go for...

Walsh
Morgan Dunne Cook RND
Hayden Madsen
Bennie Kone Smyth
Kolli

Field will come on for RND on 60. Ronnie for Cook on 70. But no real attacking change possible unless Frey can be brought out of deepfreeze. Pearman would've got on the bench but is away I believe, and Sutton's gone back out?

Other options he'll consider...Adamson at RB and Morgan at 10 once Kolli's knackered. Esquerdinha to come on to the wing once Bennie's not made any impact or to give Smyth a rest if the game is settled oneway or another. Brunson or Trujillo on the bench?

Astonishing to be so short up top when we have Chair, Saito, Poku, Dembele, Vale, Burrell...

Sell Jon Varane ?
at 09:48 14 Jan 2026

Sell!

We’re getting a premium for his name and his physique and those moments when he looks dominant sweeping up.

We’re no better with him playing than we would be with Field or Hayden in the role. So we don’t even need to buy a replacement.

Spend some of the profit on a left back.

Yes Cook made the first mistake, but to my eyes at the time, and the replay doesn't make me change my mind, the ball was Jimmy's and had he led with his left he could have cleared up the mess...instead he got rolled by 'Tatty'.

I love Jimmy Dunne, but I thought he badly was at fault for their first goal.

Don’t know anything about him but boro and Bristol city are bidding for Finlay munroe, a villa left back, for £350k ish. Should interest us because he’s currently playing for Ian Holloway at L2 so we should get the inside track on scouting, and was at Chelsea academy so probably London oriented.

Where is Vale?

So for stoke away we might manage:

Kolli Kone
Bennie Madsen Hayden Smyth
RND Edwards Dunne Mbengue
Walsh

With basically nothing on the bench in an attacking sense.

Ground wasn’t as bad as I was expecting.

Left in the whistle and got home pretty quickly via Hackney Wick.

I'm an armchair enthusiast who knows nothing. More likely to be wrong than right. It's just how it looks to me having watched hundreds of players turn out for Rangers over the years. As I say, hope I'm wrong! And I don't write him off, he deserves a chance to show what he can do and I'd have him 4th choice striker behind Kolli (who I think has a chance of being very good) and ahead of Frey (who I have written off).

I hope I'm proven wrong but from the snippets I've seen I think he's just had a lucky streak of form in the stiffs - sometimes they just go in. I don't think he has pace, strength, size, finesse, vision, creativity, workrate, engine, aggression, confidence, nor is he a baller. 5/10 on so many dimensions.

Make me eat my words Dannie Beniel.

Lies damn lies and etc.

Thanks Brian. My eyes must be wrong.

I thought he was great when he came in the team last season, and then just became far far too loose with the ball as that initial adrenaline wore off. I confess my prejudice is based more on his appearances last season than his limited work this...

Besides the passing, I like his ambition, that he has a bit of needle, and that he can make things happen.

Yeah, but he also misplaces a lot of passes.
