I was in New York in the early 90s, which is when a lot of the famous New York crime films were made, and it wasn't too bad then - I felt quite safe walking around, although you could see all the burnt out houses in Harlem. The worst that happened was when The World Trade Center was bombed, the first time, in 1993, as I was walking to it. I was pretty close. |

I'm the kind of guy who can. In fact, I'll be out in the back garden doing exactly that very soon. Sol Yurick used his experiences as a social worker in New York to write his first novel, which the film, The Warriors. was based on. Unfortunately, his subsequent novels failed to reach the same heights. The same happened to Herman Raucher, the author of Summer of '42. That semi-autobiographical novel was the best he had in him. Richard Price has had more long-term success with Clockers and The Wanderers as well as film scripts like Sea of Love. His novel, Clockers, is utterly brilliant and far better than Spike Lee's film version. I've never understood why Peter Blauner's Slow Motion Riot hasn't been made into a film. As New York crime novels go, it's one of the best. [Post edited 23 Feb 10:41]

I guess, with more heavy rain forecast, they'll just have to keep watering the Fratton Park pitch although Ipswich might protest if they manage to postpone the game for a third time. |

It's beginning to pay dividends: "Tonda Eckert has the luxury of working with the academy players and knows what each of them is capable of. As far as Sillah Dibaga is concerned, Eckert had been working on the winger's defensive skills, playing him as a wing-back in the Under-21s." https://saintsmarching.com/sil |

I don't think they'll be able to put off that Ipswich game a third time. The last time they had a lot of injuries, they watered the pitch during that heavy spell of rain and managed to get it called off for a waterlogged pitch. |

The Man from Marrakech. I saw him score on his Saints debut at Tottenham. The final result wasn't great. Years later, I saw an article by him, saying how much he liked Southampton FC. We should have got more Moroccan players. They are some of the best footballers in Africa and undervalued on the transfer market. For years I wanted us to get the Moroccan centre forward, Ayoub El Kaabi, but he is 32 years old now.....Perhaps we should still get him. [Post edited 17 Feb 13:39]

AI let me down again. I think I preferred thinking he'd never missed one. |

Larin has never missed a penalty (or so I thought). He's even scored one against Barcelona. It's good to have someone like Lambert, Le Tissier or Peach again with such a good penalty record. [Post edited 16 Feb 17:03]

Directing personal abuse at an individual player or manager because he was once at Southampton is what Pompey fans do and it usually rebounds on them. I'm not sure why Saints fans would want to do the same. |

I assume it's just luck. If it was really fixed, surely someone would have let on by now. Of course the League Cup draw really is fixed now so that the big clubs get an easy passage. |

Man City nearly always seem to get an easy draw. They've been drawn at home to Exeter and Salford so far. In fact, they've been drawn at home to Salford 2 years in a row. At least they can't get them in the next round. Isn't it about time they got drawn away to Arsenal or Liverpool? Couldn't we get Mansfield at home this time, or are they reserved for Man City? The weakest team left in the competition usually has to go to the Etihad. City got Plymouth at home in the 5th round last year. [Post edited 16 Feb 10:43]

Extra-time. This isn't the first time it's happened. 12 subs were on the pitch at the end. Leicester's were mostly first team regulars; ours were mostly youngsters, yet ours played better. [Post edited 15 Feb 10:18]

What a stupid comment that was from Chris Sutton. He obviously wasn't at the game. That overhead kick from Skipp was brilliant. No goalkeeper would have saved it. George Long had a very good game today and made a couple of good saves. He might well be the best goalkeeper we have now. |
 | Forum Reply | That referee tonight! at 20:38 14 Feb 2026
It's what refereeeing was like before VAR too. You could usually tell which team the refereee thought should win a game, but with VAR watching over them, they can't risk favouring one team quite as much as they used to. Mike Dean got away with biased refereeing for years. [Post edited 14 Feb 20:40]

Like most fans, I wasn't happy with the team selection when it was announced, but we won again, and that's 6 matches without defeat now. Eckert is an ice-cold, ruthless manager. He makes unpopular decisions, but he does what it takes to win games, like no manager we've ever had before. I was sat not far from him today, and the only time he allowed himself a brief smile was when we scored our 2nd goal. In extra-time, you could see our players were giving everything at the end to secure another victory for him, against, what looked on paper to be a much stronger, more experienced Leicester team. The youngsters all impressed, but I especially liked what I saw of Dibaga. Archer was awful though and I'd prefer to see one of the youngsters instead of him in future. [Post edited 14 Feb 22:14]

A lively young Leicester team could be too much for Romeu, who looks ready for retirement. We'll need Shea Charles out there to help him today. It will also help us a lot if Leicester rest Fatawu; if not, you'd expect him to score against us again. I'm sure a save, any save, from our goalkeeper today, whoever he is, would be greatly appreciated by the rest of the team. Shea Charles could be our key player, if he's selected. Fingers crossed. A home draw in the 4th round of the FA Cup is too good an opportunity to waste. [Post edited 14 Feb 11:56]
