Not disappointed on this occasion, it’s good to win for a change. |

 | Forum Reply | When does the bad feeling end? at 21:18 18 Jan 2026
I’m not sure the bad feeling will end when Sport Republic sell up and leave but it will bring a sense of welcome, if only temporary, relief. Saints are an attractive investment, even , or perhaps especially if we drop into a lower league. As has been already pointed out, continuation of the current form means that is inevitable. I’m not hopeful this lot will turn it around. |
 | Forum Reply | Who Is The Worst Signing Saints Have Ever Made at 10:19 17 Jan 2026
Ah you know there have been so many duds over the years, far outnumbering the gems it seems. For a long time it’s been a rarity for Saints to sign anyone who improves the team. Fond recollections of the days of Ted Bates and Lawrie McMenemy when fans could get excited at the arrival of new players, knowing that, with very few exceptions, they were going to strengthen the first team. Limited finances excluded the luxury of buying « squad players » or « one for the future ». Newcomers had to bed in and hit the ground running. It appalls and saddens me to think of the millions wasted on dud players, coaches, managers and directors. The extreme profligacy of professional football, as well as all the corruption, have turned this fan right off. I would prefer to watch the local team play on the park. |
 | Forum Reply | Do we have fitness problem at 17:26 12 Jan 2026
Probably the fittest Saints team I’ve seen. High tempo, one touch pass and move, never allowing the opposition time to think or play. I remember Rickie Lambert crying that he couldn’t do it anymore. Oh ok was the reply but there was no let up in the training regime. I would like to see that level of fitness in a Saints team again. |

Collecting autographs was a boyhood obsession, some players like Martin Chivers would always oblige, patiently signing away for all the schoolboys surrounding them eagerly awaiting their programmes, books or pictures to be signed by their heroes. A lasting memory is Martin Chivers spending about half an hour in the Dell car park after playing Manchester City, signing hundreds of autographs. Occasionally he would look up to check that his lovely fiancée was still there, 10 yards away, patiently waiting for him. RIP Saint Martin. |

I watched Saints being thrashed 5-1 at home by bottom club Blackpool in that first season in the top flight. Midfield was bossed by a certain hard cased little Scot named Hughie Fisher. Ted Bates signed him soon after. |

My memory is probably as bad as your’s but fairly certain that some of those names mentioned played later. |

Sad to hear this news. An important player with his dominant, physical presence and goals during Saints promotion to the top flight for the first time, a boyhood hero. Sold him to Spurs for an absolute fortune, not a bad return at the time for a lad from Millbrook. Wish we had someone like him up front these days. RIP Martin Chivers |

Why pose that question here? One for Sport Republic , write them a letter. |

Reading quotes over the weekend attributed to the ex Manchester United manager/coach , it was as if he was goading Ratcliff into giving him the bullet. Take the money and run son, who needs that sh1t!? |

Trump doesn’t care about the Venezuelan people or whether they’ve been living under a nasty dictator. The only thing that gives him a stiffy is making money through control of strategic resources and geopolitical dominance. American hegemony, Monroe Doctrine, Manifest Destiny, call it what you will. They’re not done yet. Who will be next, my money is on the Canal Zone, followed by Greenland .Cuba is an old, irritating humiliation that needs to be put to bed. They’re not content with sharing a continent, they want a hemisphere. [Post edited 5 Jan 19:21]

There are no more rules. International law no longer exists. Might is right and strength prevails. Chaos rules and we are enablers. |
