Refwatch - Rochdale v Boston United

I'm not an Allarakhia fan but seems the rest from playing has done him good because, with the tweak that puts East alongside him all game and reducing his defensive duties, he was effective yesterday. Moss's ariel threat at the back post proved decisive again but biggest praise to Henderson - his brilliant 'Fernadez-like' angled ball created the opening - as someone else posted, you can't beat class.

ps - the crowd near me in the Main Stand wasn't entirely patient, if this season isn't pleasing them nowt will.

Against the 2nd best side in the league on form that was a signature win - needed all the 85 mins to tire them out & deservedly take the 3 points

If Whatmuff has a weakness, it's maybe positioning (which comes with experience) and he doesn't dominate his area with high balls

Totally agree DA.

The decision in 1948 to create an Arts Council to only support 'high art' culture to the exclusion of the wartime experience of ENSA etc was elitist, divisive and reactionary.

Now that 'Culture' (as Govt. defines) includes Sports, lower league football deserves tax payer support - indeed I fear it may be the only way to retain this essential working class culture in the years ahead.

A question to the CAB is an excellent idea.

I'll split the difference - thought Mani was offside, Gordon's was a pen, Moss's wasn't!

agreed - the dynamic runs were back one of which led to the chance Dieseruvwe should have buried, another to the pen. (all less than DA's 30 mins rule!) & East's goal.

ps - don't bother trying to placate DA; it's like asking Trump to be humane

I was interested in George Delves answer to the question on contract extensions where he claimed "a substantial amount of the squad are nailed down beyond the end of this season".

According to my records 18 of the 27 (non-loan) players have contracts expiring in the Summer including:-
all defenders bar Adebayo-Rowling & Bilongo
all midfielders bar Gilmore, East, Petit, Francis (& Humbles)
all strikers bar Rodney & Dieseruvwe

Welcome any corrections but if right Delves was perhaps putting a gloss on the facts?

Some appreciation form the FGR Board - "Oh for a defence like Rochdale, that marsalls itself forward and back into shape in a nano second -like an army of stormtroopers in Star Wars circa A New Hope ..."

Absolutely - for me that was the performance of the season. Once we calmed down (as 442 noted), stopped attempting wonder through balls and played our possession game, we simply dampened their spirits and nullified every one of their threats.

Moss and Barlow were supreme, East & Gilmour were marked out of the game but we found a set piece way to go one up and from then for me there was never a doubt about the result.

That for me was a performance that wins leagues, a performance of champions.

Excellent - thanks Ell.
Is it worth copying to the Club. local MPs and Rochdale Council - quality publicity for the town which plays well alongside the For Generations to Come promo?

TVOS do you know where we sit in the fair play league - I'd guess pretty high from those stats?

a great post and that distinction between constructive & negative criticism is crucial - clearly a distinction several fans near me don't make, as they expressed audible frustration on Saturday after us scoring 2 & hitting the woodwork 4 times!!

McNulty and Gordon in their recent interviews make the point - whatever you think of the tactics, selection, formation or style, keep it to yourself and just loudly support the team .... I think last night we (the fans) played a major part in the win at the death. In small grounds like ours the players can hear negativity and often it breeds uncertainty and defeat!

Thing is the world does change and you can't pick the bits of progress you like (non rusting cars/ hip ops etc) and not have the bits you don't (tippy tappy football).

As they say - nostalgia ain't what is used to be

true, but don't forget the 0-4 to York where he was at fault for at least 2 of their goals - I don't agree with CumbriaDale that it was York's superior midfield.
