Refwatch: Bradford City v Dale Wednesday, 20th Aug 2008 00:28
Time to start the build up to the Bradford, so we'll kick off with the Refwatch Preview where we look at Andy Penn from the West Midlands.
Andy Penn will take charge of his sixth Dale game when we cross the hills to
Valley Parade on Saturday.
He should have been the man in the middle at Wrexham on Boxing Day last season,
but was replaced by Karl Evans at the 11th hour, whenever that is!
The last time we saw Mr Penn was at Accrington in August 2006 when he correctly
awarded Stanley a second half penalty, only to turn down two very good shouts
for Dale spot-kicks late in the game.
Mr Penn also failed to impress Dale fans at Boston in September 2005 when he
allowed the home side to get away with any sort of challenge they liked. This
included Alan White kicking the ball out of the ground in temper, which never
even resulted in a booking, never mind anything else.
We just knew then that White would score the winner, which he did as the
Pilgrims triumphed 3-2.
Otherwise Mr Penn tends to keep a low profile and is one of those officials who
never really grabs the headlines. He’s what they call a ‘Football League
plodder’!
