Saints Put The Cork Back In
Saints Put The Cork Back In

Saints have finally got their man in Jack Cork

It took a bit of time and for a while it looked like Jack Cork was waiting to see if anything better came along, but Saints have got the man who spent half a season on loan at St Mary's three years ago, back in the fold.

The big question though is where will he play and what will it mean to certain players in the squad, during his loan spell here in 2008 he was used mainly as a central defender, although when he was under Nigel Adkins at Scunthorpe he mainly played in the central midfield role he was deployed in at Burnley and where he occasionally played for Saints. If its that role he is going to fill then that makes four players in Chaplow, Hammond, Schneiderlin and cork himself going for two central midfield berths and although that has to be good for competition, its hard to see any of those four settling for being fourth choice.

So could Adkins be thinking of using him in the centre of defence or eve the right back spot he recently played for the England U21 squad, whichever role he is selected in though he is a useful aquisition not just for his experience at a relatively young age but also his versatility

He'll be the new left-back, hence us letting the ball boy berater go to Forest.

Fantastic signing. Schniederlin would now be the 4th option for me. He has`nt done enough to warrant a place in an upwardly mobile team like ours, especially away from home. Arn`t we only grooming him for the Arse anyway ?. How times change.

I thought when he was on loan before he played either at right back or right midfield. I cannot ever remember him playing in central defence.
Actually undertoomers if he plays in his favoured central midfield role it will be alongside Schneiderlin not instead of him. We would then have a midfield of Oxo,Cork , Schneiderlin and Adam. That would be a very upwardly mobile midfield

Superb signing. We now have a midfield that would be the envy of some Premiership teams never mind the Championship. I'm delighted for the club!!

I agree with Lego. Schneiderlin for me over Hammond. Provided that we keep Oxo and Cork proves to be better in that role than Hammond I can't see us having any issues in midfield.

@Pat - New left-back? I think we've got that well covered with Harding & Dixon (plus other youth support).

@undertoomers - Schneiderlin is the level of class that can set us apart in this division and was proven to be a game changer toward the end of the season. His poise and ability to pass in central midfield is superb.

I think Cork is an excellent signing and can see him playing alongside Schneiderlin in the centre. Hammond and Chaplow can support from the bench/suspensions/injuries perspective.
