Contract Talks On The Horizon For Robbo
Contract Talks On The Horizon For Robbo

Andy Robinson will meet with the club before the end of the month to seemingly sort his contract talks

Robinson is out of contract at the end of the season and the midfielder - who grabbed his 10th goal of the season on Saturday - wants to ensure he stays at Swansea for an assault on the Championship next season.

It promises to be an interesting time for Robinson who is also getting married in the summer and he has never left anyone in any doubt of his desire to stay at Swansea past the end of his current deal.

Robinson has made 225 appearances for the Swans - 188 of them as a starter - and scored 54 goals since Brian Flynn plucked him from Camel Lairds in the summer of 2003.   He is pretty much a crowd favourite although there are those who criticise his fitness and work rate but a record of a goal every 4 games speaks for itself for a midfielder.  That tally would have been higher had he not been taken off penalty duties earlier in the season.

And now it is down to the player, his representative and the club to thrash out a deal that is suitable for all sides as they prepare for the final home game of the season against Leyton Orient on Saturday.

“It (my situation) is on-going with the chairman." Robinson told the Western Mail

“We’ve got a meeting with the chairman on the 30th and hopefully it will get sorted out then,” said the popular 28-year-old wideman.

“I definitely hope it’s done before the end of the season. As a player you want to know where your future is before you go on your holidays and I’m no different.

“We’ve been talking and hopefully we can get it all done and dusted now.

“I believe I’m a Championship player and that I can do well at that level.

“I’m looking to establish myself there with Swansea City, and all we need to do now is put pen to paper.

“I’ve had five terrific seasons here and every season we’ve progressed and I’ve progressed as a player and person off the pitch.

“They’ve been tremendous times and I want to see Championship football at Swansea.”

“You lose the game but you’re still celebrating out on the pitch with champagne. How does that work?” smiled Robinson.

“But you’ve got to think that it’s thoroughly deserved over the course of the season, we’ve been the best team.

“I said that to the lads when I went in the dressing room after the game.

“There were a few heads down and I just said, ‘Listen we’ve won it over the course of the season.’

“I said let’s put this game behind us and enjoy the evening because we deserve the accolade of Championship football.

“It’s squeaky bum time at this stage of the season for everyone, we’ve lost at home and Carlisle have lost at home.

“It’s the way it can go.

“That happens to top teams everywhere around the world but fortunately for us it’s gone our way.”

“I’m pleased to get 10 for the season with two games left, and hopefully I can get another couple.”
