Humiliation will benefit club

Home > Story Index >Humiliation Will Benefit Club

Nick Cusack knew well before Saturday that he hadto rid us of those players who have under performed for too long in Swansea City shirts. But Saturdays shocker was just confirmation that at least five of the Hartlepool squad of players, and there are more, have no future in the game at this level.
We can draw some comfort from this, Nick Cusack will have a list of players that he wants to attract back to Swansea for next season and those I have no doubt will include, Christian Edwards ( where else do you get exclusives ! ) and maybe even John Hodge.
It is a shame that certain players have already drawn the season to a close with games still to play, they clearly have no thought for the fans who travelled some 600 miles to watch the rubbish we saw on Saturday. A friend of mine from Burton rang Talk Sport and made his feelings more than clear. And rightly so, Anthony has been spending his hard earned cash on following Swansea for many years, and his distress at the 7-1 defeat was clear for all to hear. Many give up whole weekends to see The Swans, travelling from Europe and as seen at Hartlepool from Ireland and Scotland. All of us no matter the distance deserve much more, and next season we will expect a return for our commitment in large doses. Be sure about hat.
The Management Committee as they are now called, in my opinion have earned a few weeks respite. It has been a gruelling time for all of us. But we do expect to see immediate remedy and action during the summer to sort out the mess at The Vetch Field. We need some characters to step forward and be counted. Swansea City needs a big circle drawing around it and a clear message to the media especially. " Come here by all means, but carry on printing negative rubbish and you get the same treatment as you get at Ninian Park when you step out of line - YOU ARE NOT WELCOME " We should not be tolerating this nonsense that we see weekly in all areas of the media. A Cardiff supporting writer has come in for a degree of stick of late on here. Well, agree or disagree I can point to several misdemeanours that he has printed that have been factually and indeed at times totally untrue. If there is a sword and you wish to live by it - Then expect to be taken to it too. It goes for all of us. The message is clear,if you don't have something truthful to say then from now on in you WILL NOT make it up.One instance is the reported two thousand pounds a week Roger Freestone earns. Utter rubbish, and totally contemptible nonsense. It should not be allowed to happen.
Like many now I am also sick of the negative bull that the Welsh media write on Swansea City. And the club can correct this too. They need to face them up and tell them straight - Shut it or get behind us. Your beloved Cardiff City have given you the big one, now you are getting it from us too. Make it clear. I am aware that many writers in Wales have tried ( and failed more often than not ) to get a fair deal for Swansea City and Wrexham in recent times. But it just is not working.
Since January I have monitored the matches on Soccer Sunday and Top Sport. This is a clear indication that there is a large degree of favouritism going on. Out of eleven screened highlights I have watched eight have been on Cardiff City, and three on Wrexham. Swansea City out of a total of six hours programming have earned themselves just forty minutes of space. Now that is criminal. And justification if there was any that the media in Wales are out of control. Totally.
And they wonder why the reception they get in Swansea is a frosty one.
But we need to be positive. For too long we have had to put up with liars and criminals running Swansea City AFC. Proven as such through their actions and statements before, during and after their involvement with OUR club. It's been tough, and many are so used to having a go at whatever Swansea regime is in charge that it is becoming a natural thing to do.
I will say it again.
We need to draw a big circle around our club, and that includes the City of Swansea. We need to approach the future with a dynamic attitude that encompasses the Swansea and West Wales community that will no doubt produce the Swansea City fans of the future. We need a true identity,
and a true brand that people can identify with. And the people at Swansea City AFC today can do that. Come out of hiding, it's time to be proud of our club and our heritage.
And if that means upsetting a few people on route then so be it.
It's game on Jacks, we have a cause and we have a fight. And this time it may just forge the whole future of the club. We have got through an awful period for the club and it's fans have been magnificent, but we have got through it. The future can be moulded by us, all of us. And that should start right now.
We need to push on with what we have, and what we have has shone through this season. We have an incredible fighting spirit, apassion for football that cannot be argued with and most of all a sense of unity.
Lets not destroy it now, lets make it something to be proud of - Once again.
It's down to all of us, but the club must lead the way.
From now on in.
