Rochdale: The Decision Now Rests With Connor

Connor - The Latest News

Last week, the Evening Post reported that a fee had been agreed between Rochdale and Swansea for Connor. A chance meeting at the funeral of John Charles between Brian Flynn and Steve Parkin opened discussions and the deal was thought to be concluded before the game against Cambridge last week. However, the move, as reported by the press, hit a 'snag' with the fee between the two clubs believed to be the stumbling block.

However, our insider at Rochdale has told us that the fee is not the block but Connor's own hesitation over moving so far away from Rochdale. According to the unnamed source, the deal placed in front of the players is 'better than I would expect from any second or third division club' and the two club's are happy with the fee involved. It is understood that Rochdale are pushing the player to accept the transfer, clearly fully aware that he will be available as a free agent this summer.

However, Connor will play no part in the game between the two club's tomorrow night at the Vetch having picked up, very conveniently, a shin injury which will keep him out of the game no matter which side has his signature on a contract tomorrow. This again is seen as a clear indication that Connor will sign for the Swans with a deal likely to be concluded before transfer deadline day in a couple of weeks time.

Connor has been described by the same club insider as an excellent player and he is believed to have been told that Swansea is a more attractive option than Rochdale certainly in terms of ambition. Flynn meanwhile conceded last week that he would like to have brought in Connor ahead of last Friday's game against Doncaster but he was clearly unable to do so.

Whatever happens next, it is clear that the decision lies purely with the player and Flynn will be hopeful that the decision is on the positive side.

Meanwhile, League of Wales striker Andy Moran is being linked with a move to the Vetch Field after Flynn watched Rhyl's Welsh cup tie with Afan Lido at the weekend. Moran has netted 24 goals for the North Wales side this season who are co-incidentally the Swans' opponents in the semi finals of the FAW Premier Cup. Flynn has previously recruited a striker from Rhyl - none other than current Swans top scorer Lee Trundle whom he signed for Wrexham a few years back.
