Local Marketing Company To Test The Fans Views

Testing The White Rock Water

Bluesky media, a multi-media design and advertising company is to set up an online poll to determine whether White Rock is indeed the most popular name for the city's new stadium after the discussions on JackArmy.net

Following a discussion with a message board regular last week, he suggested I e-mail one of Bluesky media's marketing consultants to gain his insight into whether a 'clean' name is more attractive and easier to sell.

As has been discussed on the site heavily in the past few days, most fans appear to still want the name White Rock and with a 1300 name strong petition behind it, it does appear that it is.

Marketing consultant John Davies said "Naming the new stadium is one of the fundamental components in creating a strong brand identity; there are many examples of stadiums simply adding the sponsor to the venue's name - like the BT Cellnet Riverside Stadium.

"The stadium has always been known as White Rock, and whilst we appreciate the logic of a clean name we have to take a historical perspective of what the market expects. In other words, the long association with the name White Rock has already stuck in most people's minds and so a clean stadium is a rather moot point.

"Creating a strong identity is synonymous with this prestigious new venue and is paramount to its success. We welcome the views of the general public to what the New Stadium Swansea should really be called and we are pleased to provide the people of Swansea with a way of expressing their views. We will be equally pleased to pass on our findings to Stadco in due course."

In response, Bluesky Media has decided to test Mr Sumbler's theory and provide a platform for everyone across the city - not just sports fans - to have their say on the naming of the new stadium.

A website has been set up that will allow people to vote for their preferred name for the stadium or enter one of their own. The poll will last for one week, commencing Friday 29th July and ending Thursday 4th August. The website address is www.bluesky-media.net/vote.

Gerald Clement was handed the petition last Saturday live on BBC Radio Wales but unfortunately it was belittled there and then not only by the councillor but also by the hosts in the studio with Mr Clement pointing out that someone had signed the petition in his name. Ignoring the fact that 1 in 1300 is hardly representative.

It does appear that the fight will continue and maybe, just maybe somehwere there is a chance that the fans may be listened to. We can but hope?
