Lee Trundle has set his sights on winning back his place in the starting line up at the Liberty Stadium next season after ending the previous campaign as top scorer but also on the bench behind Leon Knight and Rory Fallon.
Trundle came off the bench in the play off final against Barnsley and spurned a great chance to seal a promotion for Swansea which would have ended a pretty disappointing second half to the campaign that before Christmas was looking all conquering.
There were twenty plus goals again for Trundle but very few after the Christmas decorations came down and with Knight and Fallon finding their goalscoring boots, Trundle couldn't complain at the decision to leave him on the bench. Speaking to the News of the World, Trundle said "The way last season finished wasn't nice for anyone here. To get to the final and lose on penalties is the worst thing that could have happened to us.
"Even though it seems like we haven't had a break I'm itching to go and looking forward to the new season. And I've got an extra incentive in pre season because I was on the bench at the end of last season and I know deep down I shouldn't be there.
"Every footballer wants to be in the side and starting the big games so I'm putting in more work now than ever because I want to show my worth and get back in the team.
"Sometimes these things happen in football but I know I've got a strong enough personality to come back stronger and be first choice again. I can't afford to dwell on last year. You've got to come back from disappointment and put it right. The whole squad are determined to get our heads up and win automatic promotion"
Lee of course will have to sit out the first game of the season as he and Alan Tate serve a one match ban for their celebrations at the end on the Football League Trophy final back in April
