Gower: We Can Still Do This
Gower: We Can Still Do This

Mark Gower believes the Swans can secure the five wins he feels they need to reach the play offs

Swansea City have headed into the international break with many saying that they need to win five of their remaining six games to secure a place in the division's top six come close of play on 3rd May.

And Gower believes that is still something within the reach of the Swans after an impressive first season back in the Championship has kept them in the hunt for the season to date.

A run of just one win in seven has dented those play off hopes a little but with games to come against Cardiff, Sheffield United and Bristol City - all in the same hunt - then there is still a chance of success.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Gower said “It’s not all over, but we’ve got to put a run together when we come back

“We’re far from out of it as we’re more than capable of stringing wins together.

“We’ve done it before and there’s no reason why we can’t do it again. There are six games left and realistically we have to win five of them.

“We looked more ourselves against Wednesday,” said the 30-year-old.

“We were defensively solid, but we just couldn’t find a way of scoring. It’s been a long, hard season with two cup runs and it does sap your energy.

“Some of the internationals will have played more than 60 games by the end of the season, so the break will do us good.

“We’re still new to this level,” he said.

“It took a few months for teams to get used to us, but that’s starting to happen now. Teams are trying to stop us rather than beat us, giving us the respect we deserve and working harder against us.

“It’s that bit more difficult.

“We’ve got to move the ball quicker, get into decent positions and finish the chances we create.

“For 90% of teams the priority is staying in this division. We’ve achieved that and if we can close the gap on the top six, anything can happen with three or games to go.”
