Wales Online understands that Paulo Sousa has given chairman Huw Jenkins the green light to sign Jordi Lopez

Jenkins traveled out to Oporto in Portugal a few days ago to join new boss Sousa, who had already begun talks with 28 year old Lopez.

The Spaniard finished the season at QPR, but rejected their offer of a new contract and instead opted to leave in search of another club.

He scored once in 10 appearances during his time at Loftus Road, and contributed a number of assists - including one against the Swans.

It is hoped that Lopez could be in place to make his debut next Saturday when the club host FC Twente at the Liberty, although there are some concerns over his fitness levels.

As he is out of contract and over 24 years of age, Lopez could sign at anytime for free, with no compensation due to former club QPR.
