Alan Tate is happy to take over captain duties from Garry Monk during his spell out through injury

Vice Captain Tate has stepped up to the captain's armband with Monk out for 6 weeks minimum.

And that is a step up he is happy to take as he explained to the Western Mail “Being captain is something you’ve got to enjoy and cherish and I certainly do,”

“I’m a natural talker anyway, the same as Monks, and that’s probably why we are captain and vice-captain.

“Ashley’s (Williams) also a great talker and that’s what you need from defenders. Someone who is going to organise people.

“I love being captain, but it won’t change the way I play.

“I’m captain at the moment while Monks is out, but you can’t take for granted that you are going to play because you are captain.

“Hopefully I can be the player the gaffer needs at the back.

“It’s been hard watching. But to be back playing, get a 3-0 win to take us clear second is all you can ask for.

“We don’t need to send messages to anyone.

“People know who we are, how we like to play and what we like to do.

“It’s just another game for us and no matter who we play we will try and play a certain way.

“I enjoyed it. I felt really comfortable out there.

“It’s no change for me because I am used to chopping and changing. I might get a run at centre-half now, but I am happy to be playing, where ever it is.

“Jazz has come in and he is a great player and doesn’t need me to look after him. I talk to him and tell him where I need him, but that’s about it.

“He’s a good player and he can adapt to anything.”
