Swansea City recorded their 13th Premier League win of the season against Hull at the Liberty to record their highest number of wins in a Premier League season but also within two points of a record haul for this level as well.

The win - secured by two goals from Bafetimbi Gomis and one from Ki Sung-Yeung - also moved us nine points clear of the 10th place in the division which goes a long way to securing a top half finish for Garry Monk and his team.

The Swans have not been without their critics this season but there is now little doubting that this will end - possibly by some distance - as the best season in the four that we have had since promotion in terms of both wins and points.

And for Gomis his two goals - both equally as brilliantly taken - he is also answering his own critics as his run in the side seems to be paying dividends since the departure of Wilfried Bony as he took his own league tally to five and three in the last two games.

With Everton to come at the Liberty next Saturday there is every chance that in seven days time we could be celebrating that record points tally and keep alive our outside chances of reaching the top 6.

Yesterday's win - thanks to defeats as well for Liverpool and Southampton - keeps us just 8 points outside the Top 5 in the division and if we keep the players focused then we can still maintain the chance of a place in Europe next season for a few more weeks at least.

The first half was at stalemate when Jonjo Shelvey had the first shot at goal midway through the first half and it was palmed back to Ki who had the simplest task of placing the ball into the net to give the Swans the lead. As much as you have to praise Ki for the goal you have to question the logic of McGregor in palming the ball back out into play when tipping it around the post looked an equal option to him. Never mind, no complaints from this reporter as the Swans were ahead.

If the first was well executed, the second was brilliant. Hull scrambled away the Swans first corner of the game but as Naughton headed back in, two defenders met to just head the ball into the air and an acrobatic finish from Gomis gave the keeper no chance and the Swans were two up and cruising.

One thing we have learned this season is that we start second halves slowly and this game was to be no different. Williams conceded a free kick midway in our own half and we failed to deal with the aerial ball into the box and McShane was there to slide the ball under Fabianski to halve the deficit.

The goal deficit became a man deficit for the visitors not long after as well. Ki's pass gave Naughton a 50/50 ball to go for but Meyler went over the top of the ball and whilst it may have seen harsh at the time, replays confirmed that it should have been a red card offence and the referee got it spot on.

The Swans though never really made their man advantage count and a reasonably even period could have seen goals going either way although shots on target were at a Premium with just 5 in a game that yielded 4 goals.

The 4th of those goals in the game came from Gomis as the game entered stoppage time as he raced clear of the Hull defence following a long ball from Gylfi and he was composed enough to lift the ball over McGregor and into the back of the net to secure three points for the Swans.

Another win was a deserved one and whilst it was probably closer than the first half suggested it should have been it is another step towards the record mentioned at the top and proof that we have a very good team that if we build on in the summer we could push onto the next step even if we don't get there this season
