Taylor - Deportivo Is Right Test Ahead Of Chelsea

Neil Taylor is clearly ready for the new season despite having the shortest break of the Swans squad thanks to his international duties with Wales.

But you will never get a word of a moan out of the mouth of Taylor who will know better than most how frustrating it can be watching from the sidelines and just how quickly a footballer's career can change direction.

Taylor was the clear first choice left back for the first season in the Premier League and it started the same way in the second season before a nasty injury ended that campaign early and handed Ben Davies his chance for the Swans.

Davies took it with both hands and was also in the Wales squad ahead of Taylor on Neil's return from injury meaning that he had to spend much of the second season as second choice before winning his place back at the start of last season.

After a relatively shaky start, he took that chance himself and is now back in the fold for both club and country and looks certain to be heading to France with Wales next season in the European Championship finals.

The signing of Franck Tabanou will give the Swans some real strength in depth in the left back position but as the season approaches fast it is Taylor who looks certain to line up against Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

But before that game there is just one more test when Deportivo La Coruna visit the Liberty on Saturday as the Swans look to end their pre-season campaign with their unbeaten record intact.

“We’ve had a really good work-out in each of our friendly matches, and Saturday will be no different,” said Taylor

“Our last pre-season game is always a real tough one. In the past we’ve had Stuttgart, Villarreal and now Deportivo.

“They are the type of games that we need. Deportivo will provide a big challenge, and it will be a really good game to have ahead of the first game.

“We have plenty of game-time under our belts with no injury concerns, so we’re ticking along nicely.

“Everything is in preparation for that first game against Chelsea.”
