Martinez - Everton Should Have Had A Penalty

Roberto Martinez was back at the Liberty Stadium today and left disappointed that his side had not taken all the points in an entertaining 0-0 draw where he also believed they were denied a penalty.

Everton missed a few golden chances this afternoon but the stats will tell you that there was little between the two teams and both could have come away with all three points during an interesting afternoon.

Martinez though was first and foremost talking about a second half incident where he believed that his side could have had a penalty although he may have missed the fact that Naismith didn't appeal for a foul on himself which I think tells its own story.

“It looked a penalty — it was one of those awkward incidents. Ash has gone for the ball but there was contact with the leg and it is a clear cut penalty" Martinez said after the game.

"But the ball has gone out of play so there is not much of a decision for the referee.”

He went on: “We were disappointed not to take three points but we had a clear way of defending and I am pleased with that. With the amount of clear cut chances there was enough for us to win the game.

"Swansea defended extremely well but there were other times where we should have taken a better option.

“It is not normal for us to create so many chances and not score so the dressing room is feeling a little deflated.”
