Bid accepted by Swansea City for Captain Matt Grimes
Monday, 26th Jul 2021 09:00 by Davis Cornish

It’s looking more than likely that Matt Grimes will leave Swansea City this week, now the club are some way to completing his transfer to Fulham. It hasn’t been a secret that clubs were interested in his signature, however it’s becoming increasingly difficult to get any figure agreed between the two clubs.

Estimates for the midfielder are around seven million, a figure which would go some way to propping up Swansea City financially this season, and may well see one or two additions coming in to the club as well. However, the fee if a lot lower wouldn’t surprise too many Swansea City supporters. Cash sales come with far lower figures.

Grimes was believed to be saddened at the departure of Steve Cooper last week, even though his leaving was hardly a surprise to many. As club captain it is almost certain the increasing friendship between Cooper and Grimes would mean he was fully aware before many of his boss’s departure.

The transfer again is hardly surprising as Grimes has been a consistent performer in the championship for two seasons. The surprise for many will be his choice of club, albeit Fulham are spending big in an attempt to bounce straight back to the premier league this coming season.

Julian Winter despite his succession planning strategy is under the microscope

If Swansea bosses thought the signings of Joel Piroe, Liam Walsh and Kyle Jospeh would pacify the Swansea faithful it seems that they underestimated the actual effect. With Cooper leaving, John Eustace choosing not to fill his post and now Grimes ‘potentially‘ moving on many will be pointing straight at Julian Winter and asking the question “ Are you handling this whole process properly ?”
