QPR v Swansea City Saturdays game update Latest : Unvaccinated players is now the issue as well
Monday, 13th Dec 2021 15:11 by David Cornish

We understand that QPR are now staying the majority of their first team selections are either diagnosed with COVID-19 or are isolating as a result of contact. Also R’s manager Mark Warburton has also stated numerous members of his squad are unvaccinated and have come in to contact with positive cases.

Talking today on tonight’s postponement on Talk Sport, Capital Radio and reports on BBC Radio 5 Live he stated. TalkSPORT. "We had our round of testing and were preparing for our trip to Sheffield. We had four people come down positive with Covid and we’ve had two more overnight displaying symptoms. "We have some unvaccinated players who have come into close contact as well. I’ve now got 10 isolating. That's a very difficult situation. "As a group, we agonised over the decision [to call off Sheffield United game]. We had to do the right thing. "You've got players who are deeply frustrated and confused by the situation, but you've got to observe the government's guidelines."Just being honest with you, I've got 10 players isolating. From a manager's perspective, Swansea looks highly doubtful because, to have so many now not returning until the week starting the 20th, they won't return to training until the 21st, 22nd or 23rd of December. "So in my mind, and I know people above my pay grade will make the decision, Bournemouth is the next game we've got to focus on. "Football has its obligation to do what it can. Hopefully we can lead from the front and set the right example. I'm convinced we've made the right decision."

The admission by Warburton that some of his players are unvaccinated will frustrate many.

We also understand from a extremely reliable source a request to postpone Saturdays game has been made to the EFL. Citing their COVID-19 issues and Warburton desire to lead from the front, which is an odd thing to state in these circumstances. Especially when he had knowledge players were mixing and training together. If the club are following protocols, or more importantly taking a common sense approach surely other measures would have been in place ?

West Brom manager Valérien Ismaël isn’t at all happy with the postponement of QPR’s game. He had the same problem on Saturday but was forced to fulfill his clubs fixture against Reading. He said today “It wasn’t only positive cases — some had symptoms as well. We explained to the EFL and the doctor from the EFL said it was an outbreak but they forced us to play. It was a very difficult week to manage and after the press conference on Friday, we had another two positive cases. We didn’t want to complain or look for excuses. We accepted the challenge and we got our reward.”

So, it seems Saturdays game will not go ahead as it stands, that is unless the EFL state the same applies to QPR that applied to West Brom on Saturday.
