Millwall & Reading fixtures called off this weekend : Boxing Day at home for everyone ?
Wednesday, 15th Dec 2021 22:07 by Keith Haynes

Millwall have applied to the EFL to have their game on the weekend postponed due to COVID-19. It has been approved. Another Championship side Reading who were last Saturday’s opponents for West Bromwich Albion, faced the same circumstances, and were forced to play the fixture will look at that game as a catalyst. They too have the same issues only days later.

Reading club statement
A statement on the Reading website said: 'The club informed the EFL this morning that, following the return of a significant number of positive PCR tests within our first team and under-23 squads, we are unable to field a team capable of fulfilling the fixture on Saturday.

Millwall club statement
At present, only a minority of those who have returned positive test results are experiencing any sort of symptoms and they are very mild at worst. The decision to postpone has been made following extensive dialogue with the EFL, Public Health England and the club's safety advisory group.'

EPL statement Burnley v Watford postponed
'The decision was taken following guidance from medical advisers due to an ongoing Covid-19 outbreak within Watford's squad. As a result, the club has an insufficient number of First Team players available to fulfil the match,' the Premier League said in a statement. The game was called off with less than three hours to go before kick off.

The EPL went on about case by case decisions and have confirmed as it stands Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur’s request to postpone Thursday nights game was denied. Our viewpoint here is that both the EPL and EFL need to come together and cancel all matches until the new year. It’s clear many players are not vaccinated, and the whole vaccination issue is now in the spotlight, regardless of the situation a quick and lucid decision needs to be made.

As of tonight we do know that Millwall will also apply to the EFL for their game against the swans to be postponed on Boxing Day if their isolation and club procedures do not reveal a positive outcome by Tuesday morning. With speculation on large events being cancelled on Friday in Wales, the matter is one of concern for all of the countries football clubs.
