What was Liam Manning thinking ? Cullen to start on Saturday for Appleton ?

With a decent relationship building between MK Dons and Swansea City, the beneficiaries clearly financially being MK Dons, their newly appointed manager hasn’t done the link a lot of favours over his recent comments.

Unless Liam Manning has been hiding under a stone it has been obvious for weeks that Andrew Fisher was coming to Swansea. He stated “It’s not ideal timing and there has been a lot of frustration with how it’s been handled and the noise that has been created. We’re ready to move on” Okay, he isn’t the most mature or experienced football manager but it’s January Liam, when would you expect a transfer ? He is obviously annoyed to lose his keeper, but last night Fisher’s replacement, Ravizzoli kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon. It’s a sign of the times, and a good reflection on a club that they produce certain types of players, and the eventually head upwards improving their career.

Better to have them than to not have them.

The main comment which has done damage to future relations was his repetitive mentions of the ‘way it has been handled’ That’s not helpful. We have been told that was a surprising thing for him to say as the ‘face’ of his club in the media. His bosses at MK Dons weren’t that happy either. There is potentially more business to do between the clubs and a sense of animosity isn’t needed.

We can understand that Manning is frustrated, his side are now fifth in League one and he has progressed the club in a positive way on the pitch, it looks like he has a good coaching and managerial career ahead of him. He will most certainly experience the same frustrations before the window is out, be that with more inquiries or sales by a club who like a transfer.

In other speculation Liam Cullen should complete his business with Lincoln City today, that is if he is to play on Saturday as expected. His new manager Michael Appleton, a more cognisant manager that the swans do business with seems delighted with the acquisition. And wants another striker as well ! Surely now that signals the start of transfer business out with Tony Scully sitting out last nights 3-1 win away at Sunderland ? Scully didn’t play due to a ‘knock’ picked up on the weekend. The player himself withdrawing from the squad.

The swans now have Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe as their main strikers, and rumours still circle around Obafemi today. Whatever happens with him a new striker is required in SA1 if the swans are to find more goals than the average collection so far this season.
