Swansea City dominate Bristol City in all areas of the game Monday, 14th Feb 2022 14:04 by Keith Haynes Our stats collection references a complete domination of Bristol City by the swans yesterday afternoon. Possession isn’t surprising but on all levels it was a convincing victory both in goals and those stats that people love to read about. Overall as we have said the possession side of the game was in Swansea City’s favour. Possession is now back to what many expect after two games where the whole emphasis of Russell Martin’s game plan was lost. Swansea City stats on the left of each diagram. ![]() Shot accuracy and the amount of attempts undertaken by the swans was also in the home sides favour, however three big chances that could have gone the swans way were not taken advantage of. ![]() In defence Bristol City as you would expect had to work the hardest compared to Swansea. Ever under pressure bar a few moments in the second half as the swans pressed for goals the Robins, as you can see here were extremely busy. ![]() Passing accuracy, and again over six hundred passes with an excellent success rate is the key to Russell Martin’s game plan. The chances were taken, possession was excellent, and the game was won. Interestingly the 14% of misplaced passes generally led to chances for Bristol City, especially the first goal. ![]() Even in duels and tackling the swans came out on top, getting the ball back from the opposition was crucial yesterday. It was done relatively successfully. ![]() Discipline can go either way when Keith Stroud is the referee. However, yesterday he had a good game, missed a potential penalty for Bristol City and gave a bizarre yellow to the swans in the first half. But he did okay. For Keith Stroud that is. ![]() Overall Swansea City commanded the match, any team with this much positive involvement in a game has to go on and win the game. On this occasion the home team won and collected the points. Swansea City are now in sixteenth place in the league. Now eighteen points above relegation and eleven points from the play offs. Our final look at the league table post match tells us just how important this game was. ![]() That minus goal difference has been an issue for much of the season. The defeats to Nottingham Forest (1-4) Bournemouth (4-0) and conceding three against the likes of Stoke ( twice) Preston and Fulham hasn’t helped the swans cause in this area. Even conceding three at home to Reading in a bizarre game we hope won’t be repeated again this season. That’s twenty three goals conceded this season which may or could have been avoidable or at least managed better. That’s our review of the weekends stats, hope you enjoyed the read. ![]() Photographs licensed from Reuters © Goal Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
