Blue Monday ? Not if you are a Swansea City fan
Monday, 4th Apr 2022 10:01 by Keith Haynes

Forty eight hours after the biggest win of the season, and against their nearest and dearest rivals the swans travel to London to take on Millwalll in the sky bet championship. That exuberant feeling of being the first Welsh club in this rivalry to do the season double will still be with them for sure.

Michael Obafemi especially who is a changed player since his struggles of last year. The slow developmental process he has, and continues to go through is a credit to his own personal awareness. Of course he has been assisted by a strong leadership who believe entirely in this process, and now Michael does as well. He took his two goals so well against Cardiff, the first an intelligent move where he did what every striker does and hunted down that final pass to score. The second another example of his stunning current form and prowess to take an opportunity when presented to him.

We could go through the team after such an exhilarating win, and it’s often that the goal scorer gets the plaudits but Flynn Downes was a constant threat and thorn in Cardiff’s side on Saturday. He was popping up across the midfield and pressurising Cardiff continuously, they didn’t know which way to turn. Of course to see Hannes Wolf score and again Cyrus Christie perform so well when it mattered was fantastic but the main feature has to be that it was a total performance. Cardiff had two chances to score a header from Jordan Hugill and a shot that went wide of the post.

That was basically it.

Andy Fisher looked dominant when required, his marshalling of the area far better than we have seen, we hope from this game he continues to gain more faith in his own ability. Despite the pre match build up and a pretty unsure Swansea City support regards any type of result, we saw something special on Saturday. It doesn’t define a season, but it does define the history of this derby. It lays new foundations to the rivalry, another landmark in derby day achievement. The seven goals scored by Swansea against Cardiff City this season, the latter against a Cardiff side allegedly on the up with Steve Morison bragging as to his sides ability and change of tactics is even more special.

Andy Fisher Swansea City

It will almost certainly leave its mark on him and Cardiff City this season. It can’t be anything other than that. The expectation of the Cardiff support was such that in certain quarters it was a formality. The strength of their squad, their academy products and new way of playing put all the cards in their favour. Swansea City fans need to be more aware when this happens in the future, it’s the same as the hype around certain Cardiff players, read in to it what you like, but all is not as it seems under the guidance of Morison.

All of a sudden there’s no revenge to have, no landmarks to achieve and nothing to prove. Even the most ardent bluebird will admit the dominance of Swansea City puts them in a cheap second place They are a club which so much wants to be better, and in Wales the best, but sadly for them they haven’t been in decades.

And so the dominance continues.
