Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan : Be owners, take ownership and own this problem ! Monday, 22nd Aug 2022 08:00 by Keith Haynes One time Swansea City striker Ian Walsh who has commentated on Swansea City games for many years has opened up on his feelings regards the current ‘majority ownership’ at Swansea City. And he didn’t hold back. Being very clear on the BBC Saturday evening time show ‘ Call Rob’ a great supporter of this website and it’s intentions Walsh was furious that once again the swans had fallen at home to Luton Town. Referencing swans boss Russell Martin he said. "If he's not supported by bringing in the players that he needs to play that way and in a successful way, then it's down to the owners. The owners have been absolutely rubbish for Swansea City Football Club. The time is now for them to get back on their horses and get back to the States." If only they were here to do that. Walsh also referred to the performance on Saturday against Luton as shocking, other words are available. It seems odd that the riches the current ownership could earn from a premier league promotion are not in some way utilised as a lever for new investment at least. Speaking last season investor Jake Silverstein said “We in the process of continuing to invest capital into the business — and I hope to invest more and more time and energy into the club because we are really passionate about this. For me, this is not about testing the water — that is not my motivation at all. We are here to stay and we are committed to this” So,what is exactly going on ? We here at Swansea Independent realise the fine balancing act that has to happen at the club to keep the companies books in some form of controllable order. But the current ownership have never stated they are going to run the club on income only and want Russell Martin to realise their profits by finding and selling assets. We all know this is a part of the process of running football clubs, but with ten days to go before the transfer window closes the bombshell of ‘no investment’ forthcoming by Martin on Saturday did come as a shock to some. A shock indeed when we look back again at Silverstein’s comments” I’m here to help, first and foremost, and also to invest — invest my resources, my time and my energy into the club. I want to be helpful to my fellow board members and also be supportive of the excellent senior management team that we have” This has to beg the question and it needs to be asked ‘What is the plan now ?’ And that needs directing to Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan. Stop hiding and let’s get some collaboration and positivity going to get the club through this lean spell. By sitting on your hands the fans will get restless very quickly, this in turn affects attendances and financial opportunity. ![]() Investor and Director Jake Silverstein Fans are now planning to hit the owners in the pocket if this continues. It’s the only way a supporter can show their anger and discontent. Levien and Kaplan, if they act now and plan for the immediate future seriously need to take ownership. After all they are the ‘owners’ by all accounts. The ship needs steadying, and the malaise needs addressing. Whatever that signifies over the coming days it needs to happen fast. And by that we do mean whatever that takes. With almost half of the Swansea City board also investors or employed by DC United in the USA you would have thought these people had some brain juice to invest in addressing the swans position ? You can’t make statements like "We are ready to make the necessary investment in the club to keep the club in a stable financial position “ attributed to Kaplan, and then have a manager using the press to explain his issues as to why his team isn’t performing. These guys need to get focussed and get involved. Things are reaching boiling point for some, and that is never a good recipe with so much silence coming from the USA. ![]() Photographs licensed from Reuters Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
