Swansea City v QPR : Morning match day news
Saturday, 3rd Sep 2022 08:00 by Keith Haynes

Swansea City after what can only be described as a successful transfer window take on in form QPR at the swansea.com stadium later today ( kick off 3pm ) The swans still have Joel Piroe and Michael Obafemi in their ranks as manager Russell Martin talks positively about the afternoons events.

The thirty six goal partnership fired the swans to what some would call a respectable position last season in the championship. However, this time around much more is expected. Reflecting back on the week Martin said. “I think the best bit of business that we’ve done is the players we’ve kept in the building. We’re really pleased that Joel and Michael are still here. We didn’t lose those players and we didn’t undersell players earlier in the window. We finished deadline day stronger than we started it, which is the aim for any club.”

With the transfer window now consolidated the swans switch their attention to what has to be the first game of Russell Martin’s reign that actually relies upon his initiative and strategy. We say that as he has had his pre season, transfer windows and a lot of time to firmly indoctrinate his side in to the way he wants them to play. However, today comes with other caveats. The talking having now stopped this Swansea City side needs to show the character that has been missing all season. When goals are scored tenacity is required, when leads are threatened resilience has to be shown, and most importantly when leaders are required we need to see them validate their belief they can win on the pitch.

We may well see the clubs new signings on the bench today, in fact Fin Stevens the Brentford loanee shouldn’t be surprised to find himself starting this game. With players ready to perform the last thing we need to see are further Finley Burns and Rhys Williams examples of last season. Martin has the players in, so with that in mind let’s see them selected and placed in positions where they can shine for Swansea City.

The are limited spaces available. Oli Cooper really should be starting this game, his endeavour and guile has been there for all to see in recent games. Joe Allen too needs to know he is a fixture and fitting at the swans and his industry is most certainly required today. No matter how Russell Martin see’s this game the supporters of this club will see it very clearly.

It’s time to turn the corner, and show what this Russell Martin revolution is all about. Go and get the three points, dominate the game and leave Queens Park Rangers in doubt where they stand come 5pm.

No more reliance on what has failed this side already this season, use the young bloods you have in front of you and go and win the game. This revolution will not be televised.

Swansea City v Queens Park Rangers kicks off at 3pm this afternoon in the Sky Bet Championship. Tickets are still available for the game.
