Another big Swansea City support for the next big test for Russell Martin
Wednesday, 5th Oct 2022 08:00 by Swansea Independent

Jamie Paterson and Liam Cullen are definitely out of tonight’s game against Watford at Vicarage Road in Hertfordshire. Joe Allen is fifty / fifty with a pre match fitness test this afternoon. Steven Benda most certainly starts in goal and the side that beat West Bromwich Albion on Saturday is pretty much picking itself for tonight’s game ( Kick off 7.45pm )

Swansea City have been training with Michael Obafemi as a starting option not only alongside Joel Piroe but with the two main strikers switching roles. As ever Russell Martin won’t be talking too openly about his selections pre match, but the news is that Kyle Naughton is available for selection after a nasty shoulder knock at the hawthorns a few days ago.

Joe Allen still not one hundred percent fit

Swansea City have been working on those lapses in defence we saw again on Saturday and it has to be said the goals which West Brom scored, plus the move which led to the baggies penalty were avoidable. Confirming the selection of players for tonight’s game assistant coach Matt Gill stated yesterday morning. “Everyone came through unscathed at the weekend, There were a couple of knocks, obviously Naughts was in the wars a little bit with his shoulder but he has come through okay, which is great” As per our report on Monday referencing the coaches and players reviewing Saturdays game Gill stated. "We have been through the review and the unit meetings we have to look at those things, but ten points from five games is definitely a positive. After the start we had the lads have shown tremendous courage to continue working and playing the way we want to, and concentrate on building performances. So, I am pleased for them, and hopefully we can build on it."

It’s interesting that Naughton is fit as Martin did come in for some stick for not replacing him late on in the game on Saturday. Of course had he done so the substitutions he did make wouldn’t have impacted so positively on the game and picking up those three points. The messages Martin received when Naughton was treated pitch side by his ‘qualified’ medical staff were clearly sufficient for those bold replacements made that went on and secured the three points for the swans.

Well over five hundred tickets have been sold by Swansea City for this fixture, no mean feat as the fleet of coaches leave Swansea at 1pm today for Watford. Other independent travelling swans in mini buses and private hire coaches will also be at the game. Of course the Swansea support from the London area will also boost the attendance considerably tonight. Plus the hornets have agreed to open their turnstiles to swans fans on the night at £20 for adults with concessions. It is anticipated around seven hundred away fans will be at the game. When you look at the away followings at the swansea.com this season, even for Saturday fixtures that is incredibly impressive.

The game is on Sky TV ( red button) and is the nominated commentary game nationally on Talk Sport. The pre match build up plus latest team news will come to you later from Swansea Independent.
