Joe Allen out until the World Cup. There have been mistakes !
Friday, 28th Oct 2022 19:44 by @Cornish67David

Despite this sites belief that Joe Allen would return to the Swansea fold before the world cup, it now seems that isn’t the case. Russell Martin has made it clear that their have been mistakes made on the rehabilitation journey regards Joe which adds to the frustration for Swansea fans.

This news was revealed by Russell Martin earlier today. What the mistakes were and by whom no doubt may surface in the days ahead, but the impact has been extremely dramatic.

It seemed a week ago that the process for Joe’s return would see him appear back in the swans squad by next weekend. We went with that earlier today, but a frustrated and annoyed Russell Martin has indicated the mistakes that have been made have contributed to Joe not being a priority for a swans return prior to the World Cup.

This week the player has been seeking specialist advice and that advice has to some extent criticised the rehabilitation pathway for Joe. That means he will not now feature for Swansea even if he is completely fit as any injury would see him out of the Wales squad for the World Cup. Cymru manager Rob Page has stated. “He's key to us in how we play and he's key to the success that we've had so I get everybody's concern. "I can't do any more than say he's had a little bit of a setback and we're doing everything in our power to make sure he gets on that plane. I think there's a strong probability that he will be on the plane. With regards to his fitness and how many minutes he'll have played before that or training sessions, I don't know. That's my only concern with that one."

For Swansea to foresake their own agenda to ensure Joe has the best opportunity to get to the World Cup is testament to the focus Russell Martin has on protecting his players and ensuring their well being is at the forefront of the clubs decision making. On Joe’s chances of playing for his club this side of the biggest competition in the world Martin said. “ No, no I want to be honest about that. The onus on us now is taking our Swansea hat off for the moment, it’s about Joe. It’s about getting him ready for the giving him every opportunity to be ready for his country, to play on the biggest stage, which is something he has dreamt about doing. He’s played a huge kart in getting them there, we were at the play off final, he was incredible, all eyes now for Joe all hands on deck for us to help in any way that we can and get him ready for the World Cup with Wales”

It’s a huge blow and despite the odd press day low baller from Russell Martin pre numerous matches this season, this is one to be taken seriously. For the swans to make such a judgement call, and such a protective call as well to enable their player to get to play for his country is one thing. To put the country first in lieu of his club is something we hope the football association of Wales recognise. There are numerous clubs out there who would never do such a thing if it didn’t benefit their club on the field regardless of the players feelings.

Another sign Swansea City is very much focussed on the important things these days.
