Paterson back for the Swans and travels to Luton
Friday, 3rd Mar 2023 12:38 by Swansea Independent

Jamie Paterson who has spent much of 2023 training with the under 21 side has made an impact on Russell Martin with his energy and attitude to playing for the Swans in the last few weeks. He nearly made the squad last week but for a few issues, but this week he has done enough to get the nod from his head coach.

It was late on in December that Paterson last played for the Swans and his appearances throughout the whole of the season have been limited and low key. He was available for transfer in January and only Coventry City showed some interest but were not prepared to meet his salary demands. Paterson is a one goal in five attacking midfielder and if he can reproduce the form he displayed when he first came to Swansea things could brighten up for Russell Martin.

Russell Martin has reacted rather oddly to the fans in the last week, speaking of the booing they were on the end of on Monday night he said today. "We drew on Monday. I think the players were surprised that we were 1-0 up at half-time and getting booed, and [getting booed] after 10 minutes. That surprised me, that level of frustration and anxiety in the crowd. It's definitely transmitted to me and to the players. But I am done feeling all that. I can't help the players if I feel like that. I hope we can put in some performances that mean it doesn't happen again."

Well Russ, don’t mention it then.

On Paterson Martin said. "We have had some good conversations," said Swansea boss Martin. He has trained really well and his energy has been brilliant. I think as a group we can do with him, as players and staff. He's back in the squad so it's up to him to get out on the pitch."

The only way that will happen is of Martin puts him on the pitch now he’s in the squad. Unless of course he is indicating he is in the squad but won’t be getting on at Kenilworth Road tomorrow ?

Well that is the trouble RM only picks the same squad on merit and things are not happening there dropping players who he thinks are not good enough and when things get a bit sticky he recalls them I think all of what comes out of RM mouth is a load of bull sometimes I think the club would have been better employing a manager with the experience in the Championship but there again with Levien/Kaplan in charge they weren't going to spend that sort of money getting one so we had to have second best .
