Last second winner for Super Swans, It’s a double double !
Sunday, 10th Sep 2023 10:44 by Swansea Independent

We look back now to the first day of April and yet another Swansea City win in Cardiff. This game took the title ‘doube doube’ to newer heights. A last second winner from Ben Cabango in injury time gave the Swans a 3-2 away win.

Despite dominating the first half against Cardiff City an Andy Fisher error let the Bluebirds back into the game with a handling error that put the winners of this game in to question. The game was far more equal in the second half with the Swans hitting the bar and post before Ben Cabango scored his traditional derby day goal to win the game.

The Cardiff City stadium was out sung throughout the game by the travelling Jack Army as two superbly worked goals put the Swans 2-0 up. A very early strike from Joel Piroe and then a brave Liam Cullen diving header seemed to put the game to bed in the first half. However Andy Fisher presented Cardiff City some hope with a weakly handled shot from Philogene who was by far the most dangerous player on the pitch for Cardiff.

The second half saw Cardiff throw on their biggest players which led to them pulling the game back to 2-2 with a goal from Sory Kaba. It was a feisty encounter with numerous yellow cards from official Keith Stroud who managed the game well in the first half but went card crazy in the second. It added to the drama as Russell Martin reacted to his sides growing number of cautions by changing formation and personnel throughout the second half.

A Matt Grimes thunder drive crashed against the Cardiff bar to add to the drama, before that Joel Piroe fluffed his lines with just the keeper to beat. It could have been buried well before the last few seconds of injury time.

However, it was Ben Cabango who seized upon a shot from Jay Fulton that hit the post to send the fans in the corner of the ground in to raptures. Overall it was a deserved win, and if there is a question on the second half tactics it will be the negativity the Swans brought to the game when the sides were level. Defending deep at times and from the sixtieth minute was never going to see the game out at 2-1. After the equaliser for the home side it really looked like it would end a draw.

We will carry more reports on the game from early tomorrow morning and of course Jack reaction to yet another Swansea win against Cardiff. For now let’s enjoy the evening and the double, double.
