No sale of Swansea City but future investment likely ?
Friday, 14th Apr 2023 13:09 by Keith Haynes

Swansea City majority owners have been working hard to encourage new investment into the club with news today from Russell Martin that he has met with these potential financiers already. That’s no surprise as the clubs hierarchy have decided to retain Martin in to next season.

The process over the last two seasons is looking far more brighter than we have seen at the start of the year when the inactive transfer window clearly affected the club staff, coaches and playing staff. Martin remains well supported amongst the vast majority of the Swansea faithful with away attendances ever increasing on recent seasons, especially at the more distant venues.

Some of the investment will come from local people to the city it is understood.

This news of course should put pay to any of the recent speculation new owners are waiting to buy the club in its entirety and want Russell Martin and his staff to leave. This of course is as everything stands today, and the fluid nature of football business changes day to day. For anyone to be able to speculate the future with such dramatic changes as Martin leaving and a new ownership insisting that is so is as bizarre as it is wrong.

When that announcement of new interest will be made is clearly yet to be decided as Martin stated this morning. "It's not my job to say but I think we're really positive that we can maybe have a bigger impact financially than we have done. I don't think it's going to change the landscape hugely but maybe if something does come in it'll help us a little bit. It'll definitely help the club moving forward to be sustainable in itself. We'll just have to wait and see on that. I think the club will announce something when it's ready and when it's all done. I feel really positive about that and I think everyone else does as well."

The million pound investment made this week is clearly just to enable the clubs operating process to continue and won’t be utilised to purchase new players in the summer. With Obafemi off the wage bill saving fifty thousand a month plus an estimates three and a half million pounds fee up front will alleviate further the salary impact of the players. The wage bill has been reduced dramatically over the last year leaving Martin with a smaller but more effective squad as we have seen in recent times. Retaining the players who can carry the plan for next season forward is crucial. Joel Piroe will be in the final year of his contract and we understand Morgan Whittaker will leave at the earliest opportunity reigniting interest in him in January. Some will say Morgan’s future is already ironed out from those January discussions which most certainly took place.

Ryan Manning (below) is still determined to leave as his salary demands cannot be met by the Swans, he has already made that clear in interviews from the end of last year. If by some miracle a deal can be made it will mean a drastic U turn in Swansea City’s policy for players at Manning’s level.

Later we will cover the match day build up for tomorrows game against Huddersfield Town at the Swansea.Com Stadium which kicks off at 3pm.
