Swansea City : One down, but he wasn’t the answer, this needs investment
Wednesday, 6th Dec 2023 08:00 by Keith Haynes & Liam Walters

John Eustace has made it known via Colin Gordon his representative that he will not be interested in any form of head coach / manager role at Swansea City. We understand he is currently contemplating his next move, and Sunderland would be seen as a far bigger challenge. However even on that move he isn’t certain.

None of the candidates in the running are encouraging at this time, and for us it seems like a list of the usual suspects with little purpose other than to encourage the less advised to throw their money away on a dodgy bet. We did cover the current bookmakers odds yesterday, and then suggested if Chairman Andrew Coleman is genuinely serious about a positive end to the current turmoil he simply has to go for the best - and use the money available to do so. Another valueless appointment or risk will merely end up in further compensation being paid out. It’s pointless.

Our latest report came yesterday evening.

This isn’t about speculation, nor flexing source muscle, or indeed stating ‘ it won’t happen ‘ that’s pointless rumour based on nothing. Coleman is holding the strings, he is completely determined to do this on his own and reinstate his importance at the club. Conversely this most certainly is about those who care about the Swans and who hold some form of influence on social media, or via websites to insist that the current pathway since getting Russell Martin to leave is no longer the way forwards. Looking back on Steve Cooper and Graham Potter as an example, very brave appointments but that doesn’t mean a cheapo appointment every time works. Michael Duff proves that. And yes, trust us the Chairman’s little helpers fill his desk up every day with snippets of info.

Coleman states he has learned. Then if that’s the case it’s time to project what that learning is and reflect it in a new appointment. We’ve only ever heard words from Coleman. Steve Cotterill would be a disaster as an example, all that would happen there is he would get a pay off not dissimilar to Duff, and more egg on the face of the Chairman.

The highest profile left in the running is Chris Davies at Spurs, but would you give up what he has in north London for a job at Swansea who are looking like relegation fodder back to League One ? Since the USA majority ownership have taken over the club has sold all its best players in what they state is a ‘player trading model’ that produces not a lot ( except of course selling your best players ) and getting in more loans and cheap replacements.

None of this is working, and Chairman Andy has the biggest job on his hands that he has possibly ever had.
