Oli McBurnie : Swans very much aware of a potential free transfer
Tuesday, 20th May 2025 08:00 by Keith Haynes

Former Swansea City player, Oli McBurnie is reportedly able to break his three year contract as a result of his current club UD Las Palmas being relegated to the Segunda División in Spain after a disappointing season. That is yet to be one hundred percent confirmed and the implications for any club interested in his signature.

The Spanish La Liga finishes this Saturday with Las Palmas away at Espanyol in Barcelona, both clubs have nothing to play for except personal pride. How Oli’s contract is worded and when he becomes available for transfer isn’t known, and it is unlikely we will hear anything on that for a good few days. The player is twenty nine in a few weeks.

Over the last fourteen months Oli has had a few reality checks that have certainly had an effect on his overall outlook on life. His brother, Xander has Hodgkin’s lymphoma and continues to battle against this horrible illness. Oli has spoken openly in English and Spanish about his brother. Before he moved to Spain from Sheffield United he said on Xander, “You think it’s hard being at the bottom of the league but he does chemo every Friday and that’s hard. We’ve got the best job in the world and that goal was for him today”

That would have been a body blow to Oli and his family, however later on in the year he proudly announced his partner, Cheshire born Niamh Fitzgerald was pregnant with their first child. Mimi came along in June last year. Put all that with his move to the Canary Islands to play for Las Palmas, and there’s a whole load of new changes for Oil to process. And it has matured him. No longer do we read of unsavoury instances or court appearances entangling Oli in bad front page headlines. We now see a more reflective and mature Oli.

We’ve asked a source regards Oli McBurnie and his future now Las Palmas are relegated to the second tier. We have been told that he has almost certainly at this point not decided to give up on his lifestyle and time on the island. And that the content of the reported ‘free transfer’ isn’t known. We have been informed that it is more likely to be an agreement to leave Las Palmas with conditions attached. That not only will alert Spanish clubs in La Liga but as we have seen clubs in the UK. Oli still holds the dream of playing for Glasgow Rangers.

And he has also made a commitment when talking to the Guardian along with team mate Scott McKenna earlier on this season.

Clubs were well aware of the way the season was going for Oli as early as last December. A number of Championship clubs made inquiries, some stated Swansea to us but we have our doubts. One definitive was Sheffield United, they had their approach rejected immediately in January. It’s almost certainly they will be interested if their play off final doesn’t go their way. Chris Wilder is a big fan.

The only link we can get is that the Swans are aware of every player and their availability, and yes they would consider him. However, how long they consider Oli McBurnie for, and there’s always going to be a huge question over his salary, it’s too early to say. Would you have Oli back at Swansea City ? Every second in this game feels tense in the best way. The field fills with traps so quickly that you’re always reacting on instinct. The https://poorbunnygame.io/ bright, polished visuals make the gameplay feel lively and energetic. Collecting carrots while navigating chaos never gets old. A great title for fans of fast-paced action.
