Adam Idah update : Player not in Celtic squad as discussions will continue today Sunday, 31st Aug 2025 11:33 by Keith Haynes Adam Idah and two other targeted players are the focus of Swansea City over the rest of Sunday going into Monday when the transfer window closes (7pm) The latest news is more positive on Celtic forward Adam Idah who has had to return to Glasgow for todays derby game v Rangers. Latest ** Rodgers insists on Idah recall then doesn’t even name him in his squad today. We have some exclusive news in this update for you. The Idah situation is simple as we have explained since Monday when we first got information of talks between the Swans and a club for a solution to the scoring situation in SA1.Celtic have agreed terms with the Swans, a very in-depth layered contract, the player desperately wants to come to Swansea, his medical has been passed, his own personal terms are agreed and he was in the city on Friday. Then Brendan Rodgers (we are told) saw that Idah was very close to signing, in fact within an hour of concluding his move he tested his clubs resilience. Making a statement to a journalist conveniently sourced at the Daily Record, "There's interest in Adam, but no one can leave here unless we get players in to replace. It's as simple as that” That’s incorrect as we explained everything was done, “There’s interest in Adam” Now that is a laughable comment. With his player in Swansea and everything agreed Rodgers also stated, "There's been negotiations and chat around it, but I have to have players in here before I can consider letting anyone go." A player he knew was in Swansea completing his deal is a little bit more than a chat. Rodgers has held his club to ransom over getting replacement players in by publicly stating Idah can’t leave. As we have been told though, Rodgers cannot actually make that decision, he has also repeated the same with his South Korean player, Yang. It’s Celtic who make that decision but they are in a difficult situation as Rodgers has pushed them into a corner on this so they have to be ‘seen’ as supporting him. Despite Rodgers being reported as not sanctioning this transfer, he has no say whatsoever if the board decide to proceed. They have investors as a PLC to protect. What has happened over this weekend to date is that Sporting Director, Richard Montague has had dialogue with Celtic and specifically Paul Tisdale and a specific group including Nick Hammond and Peter Lawwell (CEO) It’s a mish mash approach to transfers at Celtic. The fans dislike the way the board run this part of the business and have made their feelings known. This is a traditional example of how the club handle transfers, as we stated in the week the club have a lot of previous when completing transfer dealings. As a PLC Celtic have some big hitters within their investment group. Charles Schwab an example. The Bhoys have to think carefully if they are to appease their fanbase and investors. Adam isn’t in today’s squad despite Rodgers stating he needs him at Celtic. We have been told very recently that as a result of Idah making his feelings known on this situation, the fact the board wanting him out of the club and Montague’s talks this is a double edged sword. We think that dialogue has gone well overnight and Idah will come to Swansea before the 7pm deadline tomorrow. If it’s just a case of Rodgers playing silly buggers then you have to question his overall management of this situation. However, if Rodgers isn’t careful he will have two players at Celtic who have no desire to be there and for the next four months or so. The Swans are in dialogue for two other players who they very much hope will be in by tomorrow evening, that’s the situation as it stands, we will of course keep you updated. ![]() Artwork by Swansea Independent Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
