Russell Martin and Swansea City, the latest on a potential appointment *EXCLUSIVE
Monday, 17th Nov 2025 18:20 by Keith Haynes

Once Swansea City head coach Russell Martin, a man who split the Swansea support more than any manager that has taken the role, potentially in the history of the club is in the bookies running for next manager appointment.

The younger element who follow the club (to an extent) seem to be captivated in hope that he will return to the Swans. Appointed on August 1st 2021 having left Milton Keynes Dons he came to Swansea with a glowing reputation. Winning thirty six games during his time at the Swans he also lost thirty six with nineteen draws. Elements of the Swans support fell out of love with his dream of taking the Swans to the Premier League and after a second season in charge he left his position in June 2023. Many believe he was driven out by then Chairman Andrew Coleman after Martin highlighted the clubs failings in the transfer market. Some said he walked to join Southampton. That’s a report for another day.

The Swans finished that final season under Martin three points off the play offs.

Since then he has seen success at Southampton taking them to the Premier League, much the same as the Swans manager he replaced, Steve Cooper doing the same for Nottingham Forest. A lesson maybe not being learned at the time. Martin as per Cooper (Forest) was sacked from Southampton after a poor Premier League start.

Since then Martin has been shown the door at Glasgow Rangers, fan power literally the reason.

Those that follow these pages will know of our support for Martin during his time at the club, however even on the Indy forum many disagreed. He is now taking stock of his position as a manager and will go to another club in time. Despite the odds the bookies have got it wrong again. They have him as the favourite to return to Swansea. Sadly (or not) we can reveal that his return will not occur this time around. He really has no intention as it stands to come back to west Wales. Where the bookies stand after this is anyone’s guess but Russell has no desire to come back.

With that said prepare yourself for a backlash on this report, our sources as they always were when Martin was at the club are sound. We won’t go into history, but those that know really do know. They are very close to Martin, and thats’s all that will be said on the matter. Wherever Kim Hellberg is tonight, and many say he is ready to be revealed as Middlesbrough boss, it too seems he is quickly running out of impetus to become next Swansea manager. That is still at a delicate stage but most have resigned themselves to the fact he prefers Middlesbrough this evening. Teeside LIVE seem to be confident the deal is done.

As it stands the Swans are still looking to complete a deal for a replacement for Alan Sheehan. As of this evening there is no information on that. As we get more information you will be the first to know. But it won’t be Russell Martin.
