Swans v Sky Blues : Lampard crisis two days before Boxing Day Wednesday, 24th Dec 2025 15:26 by Keith Haynes The Swans have only one injury concern and that’s to Ricardo Santos who is out for the game. It has to be said he wouldn’t have made the starting line up in any event. There has been much talk about Sky Blues captain, Matthew Grimes, previously a Swansea City player but there’s more on the minds of head coach Frank Lampard and his staff at Coventry City. A flu bug has ‘swept’ through the club over the past ten days or so meaning that special measures have been taken at their Ryton training ground. Five players have fallen victim to the illness so far, with Victor Torp missing against Ipswich, Milan van Ewijk against Preston and Bobby Thomas, Liam Kitching and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto against Southampton. (Cov Tel) When questioned on the clear up rate and if is it over Lampard said, “No, we’re working through it and we’re hopefully going to have some players fitter and fresher and in better condition than we did at the weekend. Also with staff that maybe haven’t needed to be in the building so much, some people have not been around, the Under 21s etc, because we are quite small here. Dinner times and meetings, taking it all into account completely. So we’ve tried to do as many steps as we can without affecting anything that we do, training wise. Dinner times and meetings, we've taken it all into account completely so we've tried to take as many steps as we can without affecting anything we do training wise.” Must be tough. Full back Van Ewijk has also been plagued with sickness physically on and off the pitch when playing at Southampton. However it is expected that some of the players with flu could return. Jay Dasilva was sent off against Southampton so unless a late appeal is lodged he won’t make the game on Boxing Day. Lampard had heated words with Southampton players after the game and now both clubs have been charged with a failure to control their players. In a similar vein James McClean has pleaded guilty to an intentional side kick to the head of Ronald at the Swans v Wrexham game last Friday night. We have been told that he either contested the charge, and if found guilty (which he clealry was) would miss six games, or a guilty plea would reduce that to three. And three he got. What possesses a person to do that is beyond belief, but then McCleans actions throughout a lot of his career have been just that. We reported on this Boxing Day game in our pre match build up. That’s here —> ⚽️ Swans on Boxing Day And an in-depth piece into Ryan Maye the new assist at the Swans. That’s here —> ⚽️ Ryan Maye There still remains some mad transfer rumours as the window gathers momentum going into January. Ellis Simms and Haji Wright of Coventry are interesting West Ham. They also have been linked with Zān Vipotnik at the Swans. In response to an inquiry for Wright from West Ham it is understood the Sky Blues responded with two hundred million pounds and you can have him. The Swans still haven’t received any contact from West Ham. But based on Haji Wright, if the Swans and the player are keen to go ahead then how about sixty million ? … West Ham are desperate, so let’s see the Swans rough them up a bit.
