Swansea City : Treat this Palace Matos link with caution, and here is why
Tuesday, 20th Oct 2026 15:20 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

Swansea City are as relaxed as can be about what look like wild claims from TEAMtalk regarding Vítor Matos and Crystal Palace’s interest in his services. No approach, or even telephone contact, has been made by Steve Parish or his sporting director, Matt Hobbs.

It should be noted that the Swans have employed former Palace employee Ben Stevens, who held the role of assistant sporting director at the Eagles and made a significant impact when Dougie Freedman left his sporting director role after many years of Palace service. He capably handled the sporting director role at Selhurst Park on an interim basis.

That aside, we have carefully researched the source of this Vítor Matos rumour, which surfaced in a report at the foot of an article referencing Rob Edwards, Scott Parker and Kieran McKenna as candidates to replace Pierre Sage, the current Eagles manager. A poor start to the season hasn’t helped his standing among Palace supporters, and losing 5–0 to Brighton on Saturday seems to have tipped some Eagles fans over the edge. It isn’t all that bad, with seven points accumulated from seven games and four defeats. So, fears of relegation could well be dramatic at this stage.

TEAMtalk references Crystal Palace’s interest in four candidates in its report dated 19 October 2026, all of whom we have mentioned today. However, Vítor Matos looks like an add-on, more like an afterthought. Further research within TEAMtalk’s pages causes us to question the validity of numerous Palace reports over the past year.

This news is claimed to have come from “intermediaries”. An intermediary is a person employed by a club primarily to source players or to act as a go-between when sourcing new staff. One phone call by the Indy revealed that Steve Parish and Matt Hobbs have not employed intermediaries for top-level staffing appointments, and Parish is very hands-on with all senior staff appointments. There is also no public record of an intermediary being used to secure any Palace appointment.

Our information is that doubt has immediately been cast upon this claim linking Matos with Palace.

Despite that, WalesOnline reported this link without including any credible journalistic research. It basically referenced the report and fluffed up the article with comments from Nunes, the West Ham manager, stating that Swansea are a very good team. No research or investigation. So, we have done it for them. We have been told through our own enquiries: “There is no independently verified evidence that Parish instructed an intermediary to conduct a senior staff search.”

Then there is this.

⚽️ Liam Walters: Crystal Palace reporting on TEAMtalk has included several confident claims that did not produce the suggested outcome. In August 2025, it tipped Eberechi Eze for Tottenham and described Arsenal’s pursuit as closed; he joined Arsenal. It reported Marc Guéhi’s Liverpool move as imminent on 27 August 2025, then suggested a future free transfer on 10 September; the summer deal collapsed, and he joined Manchester City in January 2026. Dwight McNeil’s Palace transfer was called “done” on 2 February 2026 before collapsing just over three hours later over paperwork. Jean-Philippe Mateta’s Milan move was expected within 24 hours on 1 February but failed following medical concerns. Confidence over Andoni Iraola becoming Palace manager on 12 May was followed by Pierre Sage’s appointment on 15 June. Summer reporting also included Liverpool accelerating a £78m pursuit of Adam Wharton on 20 August, an anticipated €75–80m Liverpool offer for Ismaïla Sarr on 29 August, and a Palace agreement for Joel Ordóñez on 26 August: Wharton and Sarr stayed, while the Ordóñez deal failed after his medical. TEAMtalk also reported that intermediaries had put Rúben Amorim forward for the managerial vacancy; he joined AC Milan on 16 June, the day after Palace appointed Sage. As we now know, that isn’t what Parish does. It’s not a criticism; it’s basic fact.

And, as you know, Liam is no fair-weather journalist, nor does he miss much when, as a qualified journalist, he investigates specific topics for the Indy. We can now confirm that TEAMtalk’s report must be treated with caution. Furthermore, Swansea City have received no approach or contact of any kind; we can assure you of that. It’s no surprise that a number of clubs will be aware of Vítor Matos, but, to us, this looks like his name is becoming an add-on to reports about any managerial vacancy or, in this case, a potential vacancy. Expect far more to follow.
