Vitor Matos : The inspirational pressing tactics that the Owls will face tomorrow Saturday, 7th Feb 2026 12:51 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes The Swans take on Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Sports LIVE Championship game tomorrow (12:01pm) with a couple of concerns but nothing major. Melker Widell will feature only if he is fit today and not tomorrow. No last minute fitness tests with the Swans having an extra day to prepare. Head coach, Vitor Matos wants clarification after training on the midfielders situation. The players will train today and those who have received treatment this week will be assessed. Vitor is a great believer in a solid pre match brief going through tactics and the opposition. We have been told, especially over the last six weeks or so it is very much ‘not’ in the vein of Luke Williams. Those who want to remember that far back will know we carried a couple of in-depth reports on Williams tactical beliefs. They became his undoing. He would walk his team through movements religiously guaranteeing if they stuck to his methods they would win games. The training was repetitive which as we know, caused problems with the players. Certain individuals going to then Chairman Andrew Coleman with moans and groans. It seems a long way off but it happened. And it paved the way for some positive learning for majority owners, Brett Cravatt and Jasón Cohen. Despite being a conscious thinker on how he wants his team to play Vitor very much believes in the counter press within a match. We have seen this more and more in games over the last six weeks. Basically multiple players close down the ball carrier, block passing lanes, and reducing space. The key triggers are that his players look for cues such as a heavy touch by the opponent, a pass that is hard to control, or an opponent facing their own goal. This breeds instability into the opposition, they become unsure and that can also lead to errors. That is ‘Vitor’s Way’ ©️ This all compliments the whole idea of pressing as a tactic, there are numerous, we will see these in conjunction with the valued counter press. Something Vitor said will come, and as the players implemented this we have seen a drastic upturn in results. A favoured one is a ‘hybrid’ or block which is utilised at times from goal kicks. Now we have seen this for ourselves why not look for these tactics tomorrow against Sheffield Wednesday. This is the fresh look that Josh Tymon talks about. "Everyone is on board with his vision, the gaffer has a clear idea of what he wants to do. There's no shortcuts with him, all the lads are buying into his vision. Once he gets a few more weeks, we'll definitely see a better team. Hopefully we can kick on from now." Well, that has happened and tomorrow brings another opportunity to take all the points and move up the table. The Swans start as favourites and that’s becoming more of a thing at home these days. The pre match to this we have covered in two parts, they are below. ⚽️ Early news ⚽️ Friday briefing It’s heart warming to see Vitor Matos being not only respected by the majority of the Swans supporters base. It is also welcoming that the recruitment of Vitor Matos and his team was completed by Chairman Tom Gorringe and head of recruitment, Adam Worth with the fans having no complaints. There seems to be a possibility we may see new signing, Leo Walta tomorrow too. Could we be seeing a real change in potential and an increased belief ? You may have noticed other outlets reporting on the Swans transfer window today after Vitor Matos spoke with them yesterday. Here is the Indy view from the day before those conversations. Thanks for making this website what it is today with your increased support. We always knew this would be a long but eventually successful road. And it just gets better and better. ![]() Artwork by Swansea Independent Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
