Vested interest in Sheffield Wednesday player plus tonight’s big game
Tuesday, 20th Jan 2026 17:36 by Liam Walters

Bailey Cadamarteri the twenty year old Sheffield Wednesday forward has been described to Swansea Independent as a player the club have a ‘vested interest’ in. Originally a player earmarked for the summer the interest in him can now go either way.

He has been at Sheffield Wednesday since the age of eight and has graduated through the age grade sides notching up nearly fifty appearances since his league debut in the 2023/24 season. He had what was described as a good loan at Lincoln City last season scoring five goals in twenty three appearances with three assists. His season long loan was hit by injury. Sheffield Wednesday who are primed for relegation this season to the third flight of English football are determined to cash in on their assets as relegation will reduce values considerably.

We have been told that there isn’t the amount of interest as is being reported by certain outlets and the Swans are by far the best placed club to get the twenty year old. However, the estimations on Cadamarteri’s value do not match any club interested, at this moment in time. Clubs will either be happy to wait until the summer or negotiate with Wednesday. Manager, Henrik Pedersen will be involved in these discussions.

That leaves the Swans to make a decision on other targets, one being sourced in Northern Europe is a far bigger fee but we now know the money is available for this player who is described as an effective striker the club have been considering for over a year. His contract is now at a point where a transfer makes his move more possible. With both of these players there will be some hard negotiations for the Swans who like every other club these days will negotiate a fee including a whole load of add ons and incentives. A good example is the minimal initial expenditure on Zeidane Inoussa and Adam Idah.

Transfers are never paid in full, in fact if initial payments go over two million pounds it will be unusual at Swansea.

Tonight’s big game !

Swans head coach, Vitor Matos has spoken about tonight's game. “We are becoming a more dangerous team, then it is about efficiency and taking the chances. We are going in the right direction, I am really happy with the boys and the tenacity and character they are putting on the pitch.” The issues we all see that Matos faces is the domination of games without success in front of goal. That surely has to change and tonight against a Blackburn manager and side under fans pressure is a great opportunity to keep up the intensity on any opposition. Matos recognises this. “We are increasing our possibilities to score, and this comes from our press, the counter press, being dominant with the ball and this allowing us to be closer to the opposition goal. Now we have to be ready for another game, every game feels like a big one at the moment with how the Championship is”
