There are so many but I would place Bacharach and David up there with Lennon and McCartney with the Gibb Brothers not far behind.
The Motown crew Holland/Dozier/Holland, Smokey, Ashford and Simpson.
Over at Atlantic Barry Mann & Cynthia Weill, Gerry Goffin and Carole King.
As a teenager in the 70's the pop charts were dominated by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman and to a lesser extent, Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway.
As a big 80's soul music fan there was the brilliant James Mtume and Reggie Lucas, Kashif, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and over at Solar Records Dana Meyers, Leon Sylvers, William Shelby.
We have to acknowledge Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of Abba and the prolific Per Gessle of Roxette.
Last and right up there with the best is the lad from Grimsby who wrote all the hits for Heatwave, was taken to the USA by Quincy Jones to write for The Brothers Johnson, Donna Summer, Quincy himself, George Benson and Michael Jackson. The man who gave us Thriller, Off the Wall and Rock With You, Mr Rod Temperton.
Glen was a great guitar player and played on many hits, I'm A Believer, I Get Around, Viva Las Vegas, You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling etc, before finding his own fame.
Yes annoyingly so unless anything happens with their 115 charges.
Now Jurgen has left it’s even more likely. I was watching an interview with Jurgen and it occurred to me that not only do Man City have the cash to buy the best players they have the cash to keep their players. Players tend to leave Man City at the end of their careers whilst Klopp lost many players to better deals elsewhere. Even his win ratio of 62% couldn’t stop the Man City juggernaut.
As Jurgen said Liverpool didn’t have the best manager, the best players or the most money but they played the best football without breaking the FFP regulations.
Niko Hämäläinen all day long, 8 years at the club with 30 appearances. Charlie Kelman will be catching him up before too long.
Trevor Sinclair as well, we clung on to him before getting a lousy deal out of West Ham. I was gutted when Andy Sinton left us in 1993 but Trevor replaced him, a young raw talent from Blackpool. He became a much better player and by the time we played Newcastle at home in 1995, the Sir Les comes home game, Trevor was unplayable. He got called in to the England squad after that and got injured during training. He was out for a while but when he came back his form dipped and we never saw the same player again. We made a mistake keeping hold of him after relegation and I remember an evening home game against Bradford City who had Chris Waddle in their team. Waddle was the best player on the pitch by a country mile and someone in the crowd shouted ''Are you watching Sinclair?''
Karl Ready was ok when he first got in to the team but over the seasons his form steadily dropped.
I will defend Matthew Rose all day long, a quality player who struggled with injuries.
I will also defend Joey Barton, a little. Obviously we should never have signed him and when he came back from Marseille nobody wanted him so we had to keep him and play him. During those last two seasons he was very often our player of the match, forever lunging in blocking efforts on goal. We cannot erase him from our club history but you cannot deny what we saw, the tremendous work ethic at that time.
Correct. He was caught between Flavio and Bernie selling to Fernandes. I was gutted with this one and I think Wayne Routledge would have been a big player for us in the Prem.
I remember him making mistakes. He conceded a few goals in quick succession where the ball went over his head in to the net. Subsequently he received ironic cheers when he made a high catch from his own fans.
When I see the way Chris Willock celebrates the majority of our goals I don't see the Chris Willock that some fans describe on here.
A quality player who I would love to see stay at the club. Our new fitness department has kept him fit alongside our other injury prone players.
I don't see him shining brighter or staying as fit at any other club but if he wants to leave the Marti party early and follow the likes of Ryan Manning down the cash highway there is nothing we can do about it.
