Is it harsh Clive? I'm not comparing him ability wise with those players, just his age & whether he will ever be able to score goals. IMO he will never be more than five goals a season & unlikely to reach the scoring heights of Andy McCulloch or Stewart Wardley! Ian Wright was also scoring lots of goals while playing for Greenwich Borough, as was Les Ferdinand at Southall. Sinclair wasn't too productive while on loan at Torquay, although his record was better than I had realised & he was playing at a higher level! Recently, I've heard you mention the possibility of Armstrong playing the "Traore" role of playing wide & going past defenders with pace. This is something I've mentioned to others during the season & I would like to see if he could adapt to that role. [Post edited 25 May 9:28]

Possibly I should wait until the report on the forwards is issued, but as they were included in the Podcast I would like to ask a question about Sinclair Armstrong. I know that I probably have the lowest opinion of his abilities on this message board, but why is he given so much space due to his age? Not that I should really be comparing him to the players I'm about to mention, but how many goals had the following scored by the time they reached 20? Roger Morgan, Paul Goddard, Clive Allen, Bradley Allen, Kevin Gallen, Danny Dichio for us & many, many others for different clubs. If you can't score goals by that age, what is the likelihood that you will ever become more than a five goal a season person? Geoff Hurst is the only player I can recall that went from zero to hero after that age. |

Various law enforcement agencies? Come on Boston, we need to know! DEA? FBI? Boston PD? State Police? Tobacco & Alcohol? It all makes a difference to what rumours we can start regarding your links with this gentleman. |

I know he had a very good career, but I was only commenting on his time at Rangers & IMO he cost us promotion that season. I'm also very suspicious of any player that only spent one season at a club managed by Docherty! This is based on what I was told by a player that he tried to sign for Manchester United. Not that I know that Woods have been given the same incentives! |

On that reasoning, shouldn't West Bromich have a great dislike of Rangers? I suspect that they don't accept that the second half took place in 1967 either! |

I think that there goalkeeper might be on a few clubs' list. His control of the penalty area & leaving his line to catch crosses was quite impressive. |

Should this thread be about goals scored on the players debut, or the players first goal for the club? |

Only in the seasons they were good enough to be in the top division! I remember Needham playing in Division One having been relegated from the Senior. Mind you, the ground & facilities are a little bit better now! |

If the player is to become a free agent, I think that a pre contract agreement can be signed by both parties. Whether this would be legally binding, I don't know. |

I know that it's silly, but the top match for me today was the Scottish League 2 play off! I've no idea why Stranraer are "my Scottish team" (apart from being geographicly isolated), but I'm delighted that they beat moneybags East Kilbride to retain there place in the league. Goals in 117 & 120+ minutes did the job! [Post edited 18 May 18:51]

That takes me back Boston! It was incredible how their fortunes improved after the name change from Headington United! I still regard Oxford City as the top club their though! |

They are Aston. They are! Brighton are the club they most feared would be in for McKenna. My youngest son came out with a very loud oath when ghe read the news. And we were in a restaurant! |

I've never seen him play & I don't know anything about him, but would we really be looking at a 27 year old that has never played at Championship level? Although Ross County might have been Scottish Premier when he played for them. 68 goals in his career from midfield looks a decent return though! |

Burnley will be the best footballing side of them, but Luton probably the hardest to beat. Sheffield United could be a bottom third team. |
| Forum Reply | Refereeing and Assistant Refereeing at 09:58 17 May 2024
I can't answer either of your questions, but it is certainly the case that some referees, at all levels, dictate whether the assistant is to flag or not. I would sugest that the number of refs that want to take sole responibility, has increased since they became professionals & the PGMOL came into existence. I think the higher up you go, the more likely the referee will take this attitude. I always found that at a local level, the worst officials were the ex FL referees & linesman. They certainly had an air of "do you know who I am?" about them! Yes Saunders, I'm definitely talking about you! |
