I walked into the Spoons near Tower Bridge a year or so ago (a Scheißloch but I was thirsty) and headed straight to (what I thought was) an empty bar. A righteous voice from another part of the room indignantly informed me “excuse me there’s a queue here sir” He looked like a man who could earn money modelling for Toby jugs ie: old enough to know better and he was at the back of a long queue. Half the people in the queue were holding menus. I came back with, “This is a pub not a post office” More importantly I got served.
After all these years I have now discovered (via the YouTube comments) that ‘Ackam (achaam) La’ is a mis-spelling of iyi akşamlar which is Turkish for ‘good evening’
Takes some of the mystery away but I’ll be throwing it in next time I’m at a Turkish restaurant.
I’d imagine Pavlovian Trigger to sound like this which would believe it has been an ear worm for me for decades “Aiee acham La!” No idea what it means.
Not an ear worm as such more a Pavlovian trigger, but whenever I’m looking for something ie: keys, wallet, phone, bank card, novel, important documentation, you name it, and I eventually find it, a bubbly synth intro begins in my mind and with a relief I’ll sing out loud the chorus of ‘There it is’ by Shalamar. This happens almost on a daily fcuking basis.
Funny you pick that line cos I’m sure I read an interview years ago with Difford and Tilbrook and they said of all their songs it’s the one line they regret writing and wish they’d edited it out 🤷🏼♂️
Are you gonna be threatened by The public enemies No. 10 Those who play the power game They take the profits, you take the blame When they tell you there's no rise in pay
Are you gonna try and make this work Or spend your days down in the dirt …
Style Council. Sell out. Hahaha.
Happy Birthday Paul Weller. Best songwriter of his generation.
