Lawrie McMenemy A Saints Legend Part 2
at 23:58:15

At this rate how long is it before you right something of genuine interest like the Cortese years part 1 or are you waiting for the book to be released? Could be the greatest trilogy since Mario Puzo's work was adapted for the big screen instead of rehashing Crosby and Hope road movies.

The IFO Report
at 19:29:45

Rover, I agree with you except it would be nice if both parties made a short statement recognising how they may have handled things differently in hindsight because in my opinion there maybe apologies to be made from either side and unless that is recognised in public assumptions and sides will continue to be taken.

Maybe I need to post this link to the main forum to get Nick to answer my question. I would like to know regardless if he gets his ticket back or not as it may help to understand the club's reasoning.

The IFO Report
at 02:22:53

Having read this article I fail to see what purpose it serves and why you should feel the need to 'clarify the situation'. All you have done is repeat what probably everyone already knows.

With regards the withdrawal of the interest free season ticket loans it would be interesting to know if you made your statement (assuming it was public) in which you say you asked for a meeting with Cortese, before you did the decent thing and approached him in private, if at all. Did you go public before you discussed the reasons for the withdrawal of the facility with the club in private?

Given you have subsequently put much stall in doing things in private I am wondering if that sensible self-advice was applied in this instance? Or did your somewhat pompous and overblown position decide to take on the club in public without in the first instance trying to understand their point of view probably favouring instead, a victory for the fans and I assume through media pressure. A victory won by their 'elected representative' clinging on to an organisiation made totally redundant IMO with the collapse of SLHPLC.

IMO all you have done is highlight the impotency of the IFO if a club rightly exercises its right to refuse to answer its questions or recognise it's findings. It would be interesting to know if you approached the club before your 'statement' given you were having regular meetings until May 2010. If you did go public before using your club contacts in private then I am not surprised the club may be aggreived and may have chosen to take the action they did but ultimately an action that he can only assume because of the impotency of the IFO as a regulatory body and the fact the club acted within their rights to refuse ticket purchase.

Bottom line the club have not done anything wrong IMO and there is no need for some of the alarmist nonsense about precedents being set and I don't expect to lose my STs anytime soon or any other fan voicing opinions because we have spoke out on messageboards or phone in shows about some decisions. However, if you break the law (eg drinking in the stands) or perhaps help give the club some undeserved bad press without talking to them first then you can hardly expect the red carpet treatment in fact I think the ticket office blinds should be pulled down for a while as is the case for the bottled beer drinking boy from Totton.

So did the Saints Trust which I assume means you, discuss this with the club in private before the statement was issued and if so with who and when did you meet? Its an important point and something that does need clarifying IMO so make no apology asking the same question several times in case you missed it.

Time To Take A Good Hard Look At Ourselves !

compelling and depressing. The answer is in the psychology of pressure and the inability to cope with it let alone understand it.

Will Pardew Come Back Calling ?
at 10:25:12

They can both go to be perfectly frank but the question is can Adkins be trusted with making good use of the funds the sales would generate? What has been Adkins' record like in the transfer market and I doubt he has ever had £3m at his diposal to spend effectively.

I agree it certainly dispels all myths about Pardews alleged personal indescretions and pours doubt on Cortese's claims that Lambert and others were over trained in pre-season. If this was the case why would Pardew want a player who can't cope with his training schedule?

Lambert has had an awful season and Fonte has had an in and out season compared with last year and we only miss him when he doesn't play not because of his brilliance but of the mediocrity of Seaborne and the tortoise like Jaidi.

Sell them buy all means it makes absolute sense but giving the funds they generate to Adkins would be like giving a newly qualified 17 year old driver the keys to a Porsche.

Saints V Shrewsbury The Preview
at 00:21:54

Time for the magic of the FA Cup once again?

Correct and about 9 weeks to early to drum up any enthusiasm for such a non-event. They've shut down two stands and that is hardly magic, making it even more the reserve game it should be treated like.

Nick I admire your effort to drum up some interest but seriously the FA Cup should start in January for a club like ours and until we prove our intent over the likes of Peterborough and Brighton this weekend does not hold the same excitement and interest for me as usual on a leagus Saturday. Could it be Magic? No Barry, it can't, not this season at least.

Saints At Huddersfield The Verdict
at 10:52:02

Apart from Davies who according to commentary kept the score respectable in the first half making two first class saves, I would strongly support the analysis and conclusions made in this article. For all the players mentioned with the exception of Lambert we have players well worth a try, Dickson, Richardson, Chamberlain, Schneiderlin. Martin, Jaidi and even replacing Lambert with Butterfield could work considering the latter scored a hat trick for Palace last season.

I am not disappointed with this result as it was fairly predictable but it will be disappointing if Adkins does not use it as a springboard for shaping his own team against an unexciting and draw specialist team such as Oldham. If we go with the same 11 it won't be difficult to predict a frustrating draw on the cards next Saturday.

Saints Flyer - Where Has The Desire Gone
at 00:50:12

Alleged involvement in betting scam does not readily equate to a set of values and decency at least not ones I recognise. As for the arrogance of today's precocious players then there are examples form the past where their arrogance can be readily matched if not surpassed.

Excessive wages and upbringing and players left unchecked as the likes of Merrington would have addressed are the main issues. Take players like Bale and Walcott and they are far from arrogant, earn big money but seem to have their feet firmly on the floor because i suspect they have been well managed or brought up in a protective environment.

Then we have players like Rooney and Barton for example who probably had two paths to take in life - football or crime and against that background it's not surprising that success can be hard to cope with.

Thought provoking read - thanks

If you were going to put up an example of a model professional then it perhaps would be Ryan Giggs and if clubs used his evolution in the game as a template for raising teh players of the future then perhaps things could change for the better but leave it solely at the players door then nothing will change and it's not a new thing except the feeeding frenzy of the media.

Saints V Bolton The Verdict
at 17:19:54

I would agree completely with Nick's summary and feel we have become very predictable and easy to defend against apart from the odd occassion when Barnard has managed to fashion a chance for himself. Lambert is some way off his best but Connolly hasn't produced either and we need to buy a striker and another winger if we are to realise this season's widely held ambitions.

Bristol is a critical game and perhaps we can play with some more freedom away from home and the pressure the manager tells us the team are struggling to cope with. Pressure of being favourites should be a lot easier to deal with and if anything a confidence booster than the pressure of relegation.

Field the second XI vs Swindon and lets start creating some pressure for places in the first team and anthing but a win at home to Rochdale will I fear be the tipping point. So lets hope for 2 good wins in our next league games and a loss in the JPT but with some decent performances from members of the squad who never trouble the team announcer on match days.
